To all the dads in our trade, we’re wishing you a very happy Father’s Day this week.

The work you do matters more than you know. On the job site and at home.

Extension cords take a beating on job sites. They get stepped on, run over, and stuffed into bags at the end of the day.

Get in the habit of checking your cords for fraying, exposed wires, or damaged plugs before you use them. It takes seconds and it matters.

Never use a cord that looks damaged. Swap it out.

Birckhead Electric has been serving the greater Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC area for nearly 50 years.

Founded by Michael Birckhead, a Navy Seabee veteran who continued in the electrical trade after leaving active duty, the company has been family owned and operated ever since.

Every Birckhead journeyperson has completed a five-year, 8,000-hour training program alongside classroom and lab work.

Whether it's a residential repair or a large commercial build, the Birckhead team brings the same skilled hands and high standards to every job.

Birckhead Electric is one of many skilled contractors in the Electrical Alliance network. Find one for your next project: https://electricalalliance.org/find-a-contractor/

When you're nearing the end of military service, the question of what comes next can feel overwhelming.

For Chris Eastman, Marine Corps veteran, the answer was the JATC.

He went through the Transition Assistance Program knowing he wanted to work with his hands and be part of a union. Within five years he had a respected trade, a good career, and a pension.

"There are great jobs out there and they need more veterans. It's a great opportunity."

If you've served, you already have what it takes. Watch his full story:

The electrical industry thrives when everyone has a seat at the table.

The Electrical Alliance is committed to building a workforce that reflects the full range of talent in our communities.

Programs like Step-Up are how we make that happen, connecting DC residents, including immigrants, women, veterans, and people of color, with real pathways into the electrical trade.

A more inclusive industry is a better industry. For the people in it, and the communities we serve.

One morning you're pulling fiber optic cable through a hospital. The next, you're installing a security network at a university or setting up AV systems in a corporate office.

The work is hands-on and technical, in clean, climate-controlled environments. And the field is always evolving.

In three years, you can earn your journeyperson status in one of the fastest-growing areas of the trade.
