Freestate Electric just landed the biggest single contract in its history: over $40 million to build four schools under the Blueprint Schools Program. The company has been building in the DC area since 1984.

The work spans Margaret Brent Elementary, Robert Frost K-8, Brandywine K-8, and Springhill Lake Elementary, all overseen across the next three years.

Will Ng's dad kept a job in Local 26 for 52 years. His uncle put in 38.

Growing up, Will watched what that steady paycheck actually built: a stable home, a family that never had to worry, and a Local strong enough to still be standing decades later.

Last fall, Governor Wes Moore stood up to recognize rank-and-file union members. Victoria Krosel was one of them.

She’s been a member of Local 26 for 10 years. She was first introduced to it through the JATC program. In that time she bought a home, got married, and started a family. Then a work injury took her off the field, and the union made room for her to stay in the trade a different way.

Richard Smithers joined IBEW Local 26 in the 1950s. He had no way of knowing his family would still be there four generations later.

The family carried it forward through apprenticeships, foreman roles, and business agent positions, all the way to George Hogan serving as Local 26's business manager today.

Along the way they worked on the Metro system and Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant. They built careers that supported their families and retired with security.

Sisters of 26 is a group of women in Local 26 who've been showing up for each other for years.

Last year they hosted a trunk-or-treat for 65 kids and sent six sisters to the Tradeswomen Build Nations Conference alongside 6,000 other tradeswomen. And two members finished their foreman's training.

They’re expanding mentorship for young women considering the trade, before they ever set foot on a job site.
