Design skills, a little gaming nostalgia, and a lot of canned goods.

Teammates from our Lancaster office joined our parent company, Garmann Miller, in Pittsburgh for CANstruction Pittsburgh, helping create an oversized gaming console entirely out of cans!

The canned goods will be donated to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank to support neighbors facing food insecurity.

Off-site construction can create more than temporary space.

At Cherokee Lane Elementary School, crews fabricated building modules in a controlled factory setting, delivered and connected them on-site, and completed a lasting, purpose-designed learning environment.

The project helped demonstrate how off-site construction can support permanent school facilities while providing a prototype for future needs.

Construction doesn't have to stop at the first bell.

Summer offers an important window for school construction, but some projects require more time than breaks can provide. With careful phasing, secure separation between construction and occupied areas, and close coordination with district staff, work can continue while learning remains in session.

This September, Principal Rod Frey Jr., AIA, NCARB, ALEP, is taking on a 200-mile challenge for an important cause.

That’s nearly seven miles a day—all to help fight childhood cancer.

Through the Great Cycle Challenge, Rod is raising funds to support research and help give kids the chance to live healthy, full lives.

The best long-term decisions start with the right questions.

School projects involve far more than buildings. Every design decision is closely connected to operations, long-term planning, and countless other considerations.

Our Gilbert Architects team has spent nearly four decades helping school districts evaluate those connections and plan for the future. Being part of Garmann Miller adds another layer to that process, allowing us to exchange ideas and experiences with colleagues across the organization.

A day well spent! 🥕

Our Lancaster team joined our Garmann Miller teammates in giving back to our communities for a company-wide Give Back Day. We volunteered at Blessings of Hope, cutting and packaging donated produce that will help provide food to those in need.

A recent office cleanout gave Construction Contract Administrator Ken Goad the opportunity to support a place that means a great deal to him.

Ken recently delivered office supplies to Crossroads Center for Children, a New York nonprofit school serving children with autism and other developmental disabilities. As a volunteer with the organization, he was glad to help put the materials to good use.
