Getting an even knockdown texture across a ceiling takes more than spraying on material and this Apple Valley project shows the steps behind it. The ceiling surface is being smoothed out first so uneven areas don’t carry through into the new texture. We’ve also protected the floors, walls, kitchen cabinets, and fixtures, with masking tight along the ceiling edge to keep the overhead work contained. After the texture is sprayed on, we flatten the raised tips with a wide blade to create that lower-profile, mottled pattern you see in the close-up. The timing of that step matters: the texture needs to hold its shape while still being workable enough to flatten without dragging or smearing.
