We showed our tenting technique in a previous post, but here’s another look at how it’s working on these hardwood floors. Hardwood can be especially difficult to dry when water gets underneath the flooring, so concentrating the airflow underneath the boards can make a big difference.

Our infrared camera is already showing us changes across the flooring as the drying process continues. Along with moisture readings, this gives us another way to monitor the progress and make sure we’re heading in the right direction.

One of the biggest things we tell homeowners who want to prevent basement flooding is to look at the home’s waterproofing system. Heavy rain can put a lot of water around your foundation, and without a proper system in place, that water can eventually find its way into your basement.

A properly installed waterproofing system, such as a French drain, can help collect and direct water away from where it can cause problems. Taking care of the water before it gets into your basement can save you from dealing with a much bigger mess later on.

Hardwood flooring can be tricky when it gets wet, especially because moisture can get underneath the boards where you can’t see it. On this job, we’re using a drying technique called tenting. The plastic is carefully set up over the affected area and sealed around the edges, allowing us to direct airflow underneath the tent and focus the drying process where the moisture is trapped.

We monitor the moisture levels throughout the process to track the progress and make sure the flooring is actually drying, not just feeling dry on the surface. The goal is to remove the moisture properly and save as much of the existing hardwood as possible.

With all the heavy rainfall we’ve been getting, we’ve had a lot more emergency calls coming in for flooded basements, leaks, and water getting into homes. This is a little look inside the van and some of the equipment we keep ready to go. When those calls come in, we want to be able to load up and get moving without wasting time.

If you’ve noticed water in your basement, a new leak, or any signs of water getting into your home after the rain, don’t wait to see if it gets worse.

After the heavy rainfall we’ve had, now is a good time to check around your home for any signs of water getting in. Basements can flood, leaks can appear around foundations, ceilings, windows, and other areas, and sometimes the damage isn’t noticed until after the rain has passed.

If you found water in your basement or noticed a new leak after the storm, don’t wait for it to get worse. Give us a call and we’ll get out there to assess the damage and start the cleanup and drying process.

Sometimes you can’t tell how wet a material really is just by looking at it. 💧 That’s why we take moisture readings in both the affected and unaffected areas.

We like to find a dry spot to use as a baseline, then compare it to the wet area. This shows us how much extra moisture the material is holding and helps us determine how much drying is actually needed. Different materials can hold different amounts of moisture, so accurate readings are important to knowing when something is truly dry.

How do we know when something is actually dry? We don’t just go by how it feels.

We use drying standards to determine the proper moisture level for each material we’re working with. Studs, joists, drywall, plywood, and other materials can all have different drying targets. We take moisture readings throughout the job and compare them to the appropriate standard to make sure the materials are properly dried before moving on to the rebuild.

It’s not just about getting things “dry enough” — it’s about knowing when they’re actually ready.

Mold can spread much further than what you see at first glance. In this job, you can see significant mold growth across the walls, ceiling, and other materials. We also used our thermal equipment to help identify areas with temperature differences that may point to moisture.

When moisture is left behind, it can create the perfect environment for mold to grow and continue spreading. That’s why finding the source, addressing the moisture, and properly handling the affected areas is so important.

When dealing with water or mold damage, it’s not just about getting everything dry. We also have to be careful not to spread dust, debris, or leftover mold particles into other areas of the home.

That’s why proper containment, air filtration, and keeping the work area controlled are such an important part of the job. We want to make sure we’re drying the affected materials while also keeping the rest of the home protected.

Mold isn’t just something you want to see on the surface. When moisture sticks around, mold can grow on and around wooden materials, and prolonged moisture can contribute to wood deterioration and rot.

That’s why taking care of water and moisture problems quickly is so important. The sooner the source is addressed and the area is properly dried, the better the chance of preventing more damage to the home.
