It’s true! Quartz countertops are low-maintenance and resilient; however, nothing is infallible! If you’re dealing with a stubborn blemish on your quartz countertops, here are the steps to take:
• Always try hot water, mild soap, and elbow grease first!
• If hot water and mild soap aren’t working, you can use 70% or higher isopropyl alcohol with a microfiber cloth or non-abrasive sponge.
• If the discoloration is persisting, mix a 3/1 ratio of baking soda and water into a paste. Spread the paste over the area of concern and let it sit for 5-15 minutes (you may need to cover the paste with plastic, to prevent it from drying out). After the 5-15 minutes have passed, scrub the area clean with either a microfiber cloth or non-abrasive sponge. If the stain is in a high visibility area, you may want to test the baking soda and water paste on a more discrete area of the quartz countertop first!
If you find that your quartz countertops are having more issues with staining than they should, make sure you’re not using any abrasive or acidic cleaners. Avoid common cleaners, such as bleach, vinegar, or lemon juice. Abrasive or acidic cleaners can break down the resin binders of a quartz countertop over time, which reduces the performance of the quartz countertops.
