Folks are likely to plug in space heaters with the current extreme cold temperatures in many parts of the country that don’t normally see freezing temperatures. Be very cautious with portable space heaters. Older ones don’t have some of the safety features that new ones have. Also consider most heaters and 60-75% of the circuit breakers capacity. Overloading a breaker is very common when using portable space heaters. Make sure your smoke alarms have fresh batteries and are working properly.

There’s a shift happening—and Gen Z is paying attention. 👀

📊 According to a 2023 study by Jobber:
✅ 75% of Gen Z are interested in vocational schools that offer paid, on-the-job training.
💸 That means practical, debt-averse careers are gaining traction.

However, 79% say their parents prefer they attend a traditional four-year college.

It’s time to change the conversation. 🙌

At Explore The Trades, we’re working to reframe the skilled trades—like plumbing, HVAC, and electrical—as the smart, respected, and opportunity-rich careers they truly are.

Let’s show the next generation that success doesn’t have to come with student debt.

Carbon monoxide is often called the silent killer, but its dangers go beyond what most people realize.

On the latest NFPA podcast, we talk with Charon McNabb, founder and president of the National Carbon Monoxide Awareness Association, about the hidden risks of long-term CO exposure. Learn how even low levels—undetectable by standard alarms—can cause lasting health effects, and why this issue is so often overlooked.

Hear Charon’s story, what every household needs to know, and the efforts underway to reduce this under-the-radar health hazard.

Do you have the right wire gauge extension cords? Using an extension cord with a smaller conductor gauge could be dangerous.
