A customer asked me how much it cost to do this job....
I answered him: $ 1500
He said: So expensive for this job?
I asked: How much do you think it would cost you?
He answers me: $ 800 maximum... That's a pretty simple job right? !"
- For $ 800 I invite you to do it yourself.
- But.... I don't know how to.
- For $800 I'll teach you how to. So besides saving you $700, you'll get the knowledge for the next time you want
- It seemed right to him and he agreed.
- But to get started: you need tools: A welder, grinder, chop saw, drill press, welding hood, gloves etc...
- But I don't have all these equipment and I can't buy all of these for one job.
- Well then for another $300 more I'll rent my stuff to you so you can do it.
- Okay, he says.
- Okay! Tuesday I'm waiting for you to start doing this work
- But I can't on Tuesday I only have time today.
- I'm sorry, but I'm only available Tuesday to teach you and lend you my stuff. Other days are busy with other customers.
- Okay! That means I'm going to have to sacrifice my Tuesday, give up my tasks.
- I forgot. To do your job yourself, you also have to pay for the nonproductive factors.
- That is? What is this?"
- Bureaucratic, tax, vat, security, insurance, fuel etc.
- Oh no!... But to accomplish these tasks, I'm going to spend more money and waste a lot of time!
- Do you have them? You can do it to me before?"
- Okay!
- I'll make you all the material you need. Truck loading is done Monday evening or Tuesday morning you'll have to come by 6 loading the truck. Don't forget to be on time to avoid traffic jams and be on time
- At 6??? Nope! Too early for me! I used to getting up later...
- You know, I've been thinking. Y ' all better get the job done. I'd rather pay you the $1500. If I had to, it wouldn't be perfect and it would cost me a lot more.

When you pay for a job, especially handcrafted, you pay not only for the material used, but also:
- Knowledge
- Experience
- Study
- Tools
- Services
- Time to go
- punctuality
- Accountability
- Professionalism
- Accuracy
- Guaranteed
- Patents
- Sacrifices
- Safety and security
- Payment of tax obligations
Critiquing the work of others based on pricing is not fair. The fees I would charge for a similar task are considerably higher than what is indicated here, but the emphasis lies in the principle rather than the specific amount.
Only by knowing all the elements necessary for the production of a certain work can you estimate the actual cost.

Not my photo, but I have this conversation more frequently than expected.

As a painter, I sometimes cringe and feel bad when I see my friends or family members/ community folks painting their rooms or the interior of their home, the opposite way from how it’s actually supposed to get done!
(I am Not Judging anyone just trying to help) 🙌

Here are some simple steps that have helped me threw out my years of experience that will make your life a lot easier the next time you repaint a room or interior of your home ESPECIALLY now that holidays 🎄🎅❄️are just around the corner!

1. Move the furniture to the middle of the room, *NO NEED TO EMPTY OUT ENTIRE ROOM/AREA* remove outlet covers and switch plates(come on it doesn’t take much to remove the outlet covers)! Cover the furniture with plastic drop sheets and lay cloth drop sheets, tarps or lay masking rolled paper on the floor! *NO ONE LIKES PAINT DROPLETS ON THERE FLOORING* doesn’t look good 😬👎

2. Fill all holes with putty, I usually use the Pink Lid one Because it dries super super fast and easy to sand when dry! Then apply a coat of primer over top of it. To insure a proper adhesion to the paint
*Caulk trim gaps* trust me especially if you have white enamel trim, no one likes to see those gaps 😬👎
*Tape off all trim and anything you don’t want paint on it * trust me it’s way easier to tape off then to try and get paint off

3. Use a high quality paint that has primer built in ( Sherwin Williams or Berhn from Home Depot but Sherwin Williams Will Always Beat anything 🙌.) It’s more expensive, but trust me - it’s worth it!!!!There’s nothing worse than when a client wants us to use ace / Menards paint. Just doesn’t look good at least in my opinion and many other clients/contractors opinion!
*Sherwin Williams, PPG, Bear* are my personal top 3 choices for interior wall paint

4. Use ceiling paint on the ceiling, (ceiling paint will always be Not Shiny *Matte*)! Eggshell/Satin *more shine* on the walls and semi-gloss *a lot more shine* on the trim. You really want the trim to Stand out!
But once again my recommendation, and everyone is free to do and pick whatever they would like with there home!

5. Start by doing two coats on the ceiling, then do two coats on the trim, then do two coats on the walls. (If your doing ceiling walls and trim you want to do the walls LAST) This will make the job go WAY faster because when you’re painting the ceiling/trim, you can overlap onto the walls and it doesn’t matter. That means that you only have to do straight lines once. If you need help don’t worry make sure to get a hold of me I can help you out 😉check bottom👇

6. USE THE PROPER TOOLS: Buy high quality brushes and rollers. (Purdy) And please, PLEASE, use an extension pole when rolling (unless you want to throw out your back, shoulders, forearms ). Often times your broom pole will work too.
• 3in brush is great
• 9in - 18in long roller with a 1/4in -1/2 in nap is good for walls
• 9in - 18in long roller with a 1/2in-3/4in nap for ceilings

7. If you can’t reach certain areas that’s ok, use a step stool to reach those areas, trust me I understand!

8. If you got *Popcorn* Ceilings •DO NOT ROLL•
The ceiling, you’ll only make a big mess and ruin your roller with a roller full of popcorn bits on it, You MUST SPRAY YOUR CEILINGS!
• if you don’t have a sprayer that’s fine, I can spray them for you to have them looking white and fresh 😁•

9. After all the painting is done, remove the dropsheets/masking roll paper/tarps and wait for the paint to fully dry before putting switch plates/outlet covers back on and furniture up against the wall. The paint should not be “tacky” at all.
(LET PAINT CURE FULLY) *READ LABELS ON PAINT*

10. After your done painting and have everything cleaned up, make sure to thank me, and give this post a like, share to family and friends! I would appreciate it a lot 🙏, just a normal painter making a way of living, and trying to help out my fellow neighbors, friends, community!
