Heres an interaction that I had with a customer today. I'm sharing this not to brag or boast but to drive home the point I have tried to make over and over again. Heres a little bit of a back story on this job and this customer to give context to the picture posted. I bid this job about 3 weeks ago. It was a full exterior with wood siding, facia board, soffit, handrail, picket repairs as well as demo and complete rebuild of a 6 step deck staircase and handrails. The trim was to be painted, the siding to be stained. This house is 28 years old and the exterior is built with cypress siding. Its 4400 Sq ft. The wrap around screen in porch has served as a kennel for the long haired German shepherds that they bred and sold over the past 12 years. So needless to say this home was in need of some real tlc. Because we had been a little slow and wanted to be sure we weren't under bid I priced this job enough above cost to barely scrape by. I told the home owner the job would take about 15 days to to reach the standard of care they were expecting. The next day the customer called me in regards to my estimate. She told me that the other estimate was significantly lower than mine. Her husband wanted to go with the cheaper bid but she was more comfortable with my company and my professionalism. I asked if she was comfortable discussing the other bid. She told me the bid was for 7 days of work and was almost $7000 lower than my bid. Keep in mind my bid was as low as I could possibly get it and barely be able to cover my cost. I knew immediately what I was dealing with here. It was exactly what I post about all of the time on fb. It was some fly by night handy man, weekend warrior that owns a roller and a paint brush they bought at the dollar general and called themselves painters. To drive the point home to her I had her use chat gpt with photos of her home to estimate what the cost of the work should be for the zip code that she lived in and as expected my price for the job was at the absolute lowest end of what they considered to be acceptable for the work they needed done. My point here is this. We will never be your cheapest estimate. We don't want to be. We want your business because you are interested in the quality of our work, and our reputation. We want your business because we have the experience and know how to exceed your expectations. If this customer would have fallen for "let's hire the cheapest guy" fb market place bit, I can guarantee you they would of still had to hire me at a higher rate to fix the disaster that the other company left behind. Tuesday was our 7th day on the job. Day seven was the first time we wet a paintbrush on the job. The first six and a half days was prep work and repairs. Today is day 9 and we are still prepping parts of the house and still have repairs to do. I can't wait to show yall the before and after pictures of this job!
