Yesterday we staked newly planted live oaks, red oaks, and other native saplings, then worked Asiatic jasmine in as groundcover. The goal is straightforward: support young trees so they can put energy into roots instead of fighting wind and competition, protect what’s already there, and increase native species on the property.
This is the kind of work that pays off in 3–5 years, not next week. Strong establishment now means fewer replacements, better canopy, and a site that looks intentional instead of overgrown.

Serving Kyle and the greater Austin area.

Saving these Young NATIVE TREES

09/18/2026

Your trees are trying to breathe — and a lot of “tree care” is quietly choking them.
Don’t build tree wells. A raised ring of soil or mulch holds water against the bark and pushes roots the wrong way. Same problem with volcano mulching. More mulch is not more love.
Show the root flare. Keep mulch a few inches off the trunk. Feed the soil with Mirimichi Green CarbonizPN.
That’s how we work at Kyle Landscaping Services. ISA Certified Arborist. Quality, not quantity.
Give us a call for a free tree consultation.

This Christmas, skip the ladder.
Kyle Landscaping Services now books three lighting options for Kyle, Buda, San Marcos, and the Austin area:
• Traditional Christmas light installation — designed, hung, maintained, and taken down
• Omni permanent lighting — hidden-by-day tracks along your eaves. Change colors from your phone for Christmas, Fourth of July, game day, or quiet warm-white every night of the year
• Landscape lighting — trees, walkways, beds, and architecture lit with the same quality we bring to every install
No tangled cords. No last-minute scramble. Professional work, and the same one-on-one service we use on every landscape job.
Spots fill fast once the first cool nights hit. Call or message for a walk-through and quote.

Most new trees in Central Texas do not die from “bad luck.” They die because they were planted too deep, the roots were still circling the pot, or nobody watered the root ball the first two summers.
Soak 6–8 gallons per inch of trunk each week. Keep mulch off the trunk. Set the root flare at or just above grade.
Fall and winter are the window. If you want it done to arborist standard, we plant it and leave you a watering plan.

Most trees fail at the base. If the root flare is buried, moisture sits on the trunk, rot starts, and roots begin to girdle. We keep the flare visible at grade. That is the ISA standard.

Lion tailing is not a “clean look.” It is a pruning mistake. When the inside of the tree is stripped and leaves are left only at the tips, the limbs turn into long, heavy levers. That raises storm-breakage risk, sunscalds bark, and forces weak sprouts that cost more later. ISA Certified Arborists do not prune this way. Kyle Landscaping Services follows ANSI A300 standards: keep interior structure, thin modestly, and leave a tree that still looks like itself. We put together a short client sheet that shows the difference. Message us if you want a copy—or if a tree on your property already looks like an umbrella.
