A hidden piece of Knoxville’s history is finding new life!

MHM is proud to collaborate with the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville to transform the former coal furnace level beneath the historic Emporium into The Furnace, a new venue for immersive art, performance, and community gatherings.

Preserving the space’s exposed brick and heavy timber, the design introduces flexible exhibition and performance areas while creating a new entrance along Jackson Avenue. The project reimagines a long-overlooked space as a destination for creativity and connection, contributing to the continued revitalization of downtown Knoxville.

Developed in collaboration with Christopoulos & Kennedy.

Meet Brooke, a registered Interior Designer and a new addition to MHM’s design team.

An East Tennessee State University graduate with dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Interior Architecture and Marketing, Brooke brings more than six years of experience across commercial healthcare, higher education, workplace, and residential design.

Brooke approaches design with a focus on creating warm, thoughtful spaces that balance function with character. She draws inspiration from natural materials and layered textures, while bringing her creativity beyond interior design through her passion for ceramics and her own small ceramics business.

We’re excited to have Brooke’s experience, creativity, and thoughtful approach on the MHM team. Welcome, Brooke!

TRISO-X recently announced a 70-acre expansion of its Oak Ridge campus, continuing the region’s growth as a center for advanced nuclear research and manufacturing.

MHM is proud to serve as architect for the TRISO-X Research & Development Laboratory Facility at Horizon Center Industrial Park, working alongside Geiger Brothers as part of the design-build team. The broader campus expansion is expected to bring more than 1,100 new jobs to East Tennessee while supporting the development of next-generation nuclear fuel technologies.

We’re excited to contribute to a project with such significant investment in Oak Ridge and the region’s future.

Exciting momentum continues for Knoxville Children's Theatre’s current home, The Foundry at World’s Fair Park. The Boyd Foundation recently announced a $2 million gift to KCT’s Next Stage capital campaign, supporting the transformation of the historic venue into a dedicated youth arts center.

MHM is proud to collaborate with KCT on the design for the renovation and expansion. The project will include a 250-seat auditorium, 100-seat black box theatre, rehearsal hall, five academy classrooms, scene and costume shops, and other spaces designed to give more young people opportunities to learn, create, perform, and discover their place in the arts.

We’re excited to see The Foundry begin its next act in support of generations of young artists across East Tennessee.

Recently, MHM teamed up with Legacy Parks for Knoxville’s Park(ing) Day, transforming a downtown parking space into a preview of what’s to come along the SoKno Rail Trail & Art Walk.

Our activation gave the community a chance to experience upcoming art installations and imagine how art, nature and public space can come together along the trail. We’re honored to have been named the People’s Choice winner and grateful to everyone who stopped by to explore it with us.

Thank you to our partners at Legacy Parks Foundation, Allen Sign Company and Hickory Construction Inc. for helping bring the activation to life.

MHM, in collaboration with Robert A. M. Stern Architects (RAMSA), is designing the new Haslam College of Business - UT building at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.

At 243,800 square feet, the five-story facility will bring all seven academic departments together with classrooms, research labs, auditoriums, offices and shared spaces designed to encourage collaboration across the college and the broader campus. Located at the intersection of Cumberland Avenue and Volunteer Boulevard, the building will also create new connections to the Student Union and surrounding campus through a series of open plazas and a central courtyard.

Now under construction, the project is being built in partnership with Blaine Construction Corporation. We’re grateful for their collaboration in bringing this ambitious project to life.
