This photo probably tells our story better than any perfectly posed company picture ever could.

Joe joined the TCS team in 2017, and we have worked together side by side for the last 9 years now. We’ve shared early mornings, late nights, hard talks, difficult decisions, unexpected problems, big wins, sang loudly on job sites, and had more laughs than we could ever count.

Some customers say things like, “I could never imagine working with my brother.”

We always give them the same answer:

“We can’t imagine not working together.”

That doesn’t mean we agree on everything. But there is a level of trust and accountability between us that could never be written into a job description. We can challenge each other honestly, depend on each other completely, and know that neither of us is walking away when things get difficult.

That relationship is woven into Targeted Construction Services.

When you hire us, you aren’t just hiring a company whose name disappears once the contract is signed. You’re trusting a local family that has spent nearly a decade together building its reputation—one homeowner, one project, and one promise at a time.

We know every job carries our family’s name, and we take that personally because you’re trusting us with the home that protects yours.

Nine years later, we’re still working side by side, still pushing each other to be better, and—judging by this picture—still having a pretty good time doing it.

Thank you to every customer who has trusted our family to take care of yours.

What are those little white lines on your roof?

They’re exposed fiberglass—and that means the shingle’s protective surface has already been worn away.

In this video, Josh shows an important warning sign that most homeowners would never notice from the ground. Asphalt shingles are built in layers:

• The fiberglass mat provides strength and structure.
• The asphalt creates the water-resistant barrier.
• The granules protect the asphalt from sunlight, weather, and physical wear.

When the fiberglass becomes visible, the damage has progressed beyond ordinary granule loss. The protective granules and asphalt coating are no longer covering that area, leaving the shingle vulnerable to ultraviolet exposure, cracking, further deterioration, and eventually water intrusion.

Think of the fiberglass as the skeleton of the shingle. If you can see it, the layers meant to protect it are already gone.

The important part is catching it before the damage turns into an interior leak.

This is why our roof inspections go beyond looking for missing shingles. We examine the actual condition of the roofing material and explain what those signs mean for the remaining life of your roof.

If you notice light-colored lines or patches appearing across your shingles, have them inspected. Your roof may be showing you a problem long before water reaches your ceiling.

I hope I'm not the first person to tell you this, but the cheapest estimate is always the most expensive in the long run. I understand why homeowners compare roofing estimates and lean toward the lowest price. A roof is a major expense, and nobody wants to spend more than they have to.

But this is the part that worries me.

We found this during a recent roof inspection. Someone ran into a pipe that couldn’t simply be disconnected because of the power wires running through it. So they cut open a standard pipe boot, wrapped it around the pipe, and tried to seal everything back together with caulk.

It may have looked fine from the ground—and the homeowner probably had no idea anything was wrong.

But a standard pipe boot depends on that rubber collar remaining intact. Once it is cut, the seal it was designed to create is gone. The correct solution is a purpose-built split boot made specifically for situations like this.

That product may cost a little more. Installing it properly may take a little more time. Most importantly, the contractor has to know it exists and care enough to use it.

That is what homeowners are really comparing when they look at two different prices.

It isn’t always the same job with one company charging more. Sometimes one price includes the right materials, experienced installers, careful attention to the details, and a company that will still answer the phone if there is a problem. The other price may simply get the roof finished.

You shouldn’t automatically choose the most expensive contractor—but you also shouldn’t assume every contractor is offering the same roof.

Most of the differences won’t be obvious when the crew leaves. They reveal themselves years later, usually when water starts showing up somewhere it shouldn’t.

Choose the company you trust to do the things you may never be able to see from the ground.

That is where the real value is.

The best customer review isn’t always five stars.

Sometimes, it’s a customer calling you again.

Zach and Danielle had already trusted Targeted Construction Services with work on their home. So when they discovered a leak in their living room—and multiple roofers couldn’t identify where the water was coming from—they came back to us for answers.

We traced the problem, found several installation issues with the existing roof that the others had missed, and helped them move forward with a permanent solution: a completely new roof.

That is what makes this testimonial meaningful. It isn’t coming from someone who responded to an advertisement or heard a sales pitch. It comes from repeat customers who had already experienced our work and trusted us enough to invite us back when something important went wrong.

Anyone can promise a great experience. Customers like Zach and Danielle are the proof that we deliver one.

Thank you both for trusting our family with your home again—and for taking the time to share your experience.

If you have a roof problem that no one has been able to solve, give Targeted Construction Services a call. We’ll take the time to find the cause—not simply treat the symptom.

These two roof pe*******ons are only a few feet apart—but one is flashed correctly, and the other is a leak waiting to happen.

In this video, Josh shows why proper flashing is about more than putting rubber, metal, and sealant around a pipe. It must be installed in the correct order so the roof works with gravity.

On the correctly flashed pipe, the upper portion of the flashing is tucked beneath the shingles while the lower apron remains exposed on top. Rainwater flows down the roof, onto the flashing, and safely continues toward the gutter.

The incorrectly flashed pipe depends heavily on layers of sealant around its base. That may hold temporarily, but sunlight, temperature changes, and normal roof movement eventually cause sealant to dry out, crack, and separate. Once it fails, water can follow the pipe directly into the roof decking, attic, and ceiling below.

That is the key lesson: sealant should support a properly installed flashing system—it should never be the only thing that keeps the water out.

A roof is designed to shed water through carefully overlapping layers. When those layers are installed in the wrong order, even a small pe*******on can become the source of a major leak.

This is why a real roof inspection involves more than looking at the shingles. We inspect the details most homeowners never think about—because those details are often where leaks begin.

If your roof has pipes, vents, chimneys, or other pe*******ons surrounded by cracked or excessive sealant, it may be time to have the flashing professionally inspected.

The shingles are only the part of your roof you can see.

In this video, Joe explains what is happening behind the scenes as our crew removes the old roofing system and prepares the home for its new one.

Once the old shingles are removed, everything depends on creating a solid foundation. The roof decking must be strong, secure, and capable of properly holding the new roofing materials. Any weak or damaged areas have to be addressed before they are covered.

From there, we install the protective layers Joe is showing:

• Ice and water barrier adheres directly to the roof deck in the areas most vulnerable to water intrusion.

• Synthetic underlayment provides an additional layer of protection beneath the shingles across the roof.

• Proper roofing nails and fastening patterns secure the entire system so it can withstand the weather conditions we experience in Western Pennsylvania.

• The shingles complete the system—but they cannot compensate for shortcuts taken underneath them.

These materials will eventually be hidden, but they are a major part of what determines whether a roof protects your home for decades or begins causing problems far too soon.

That is why two roofing estimates can include the same brand of shingle and still represent two very different roofs. The quality of the materials, the preparation of the roof deck, and the installation details underneath the shingles all matter.

When comparing roofing proposals, don’t only ask which shingle is being installed. Ask what is going underneath it.

At Targeted Construction Services, we believe homeowners deserve to understand the entire roofing system they are purchasing—not just the part they can see from the driveway.

Would you trust a raincoat that cracked every time you moved in it?

That is essentially what you’re seeing in this video.

A healthy asphalt shingle should still have enough pliability to lift and flex without immediately cracking. That flexibility matters because your roof never truly sits still. It expands in the summer heat, contracts during freezing Pennsylvania winters, moves in strong winds, and occasionally needs to be lifted so repairs can be made.

But as shingles age, years of heat, sunlight, and weather exposure dry out the asphalt. Eventually, the shingle loses its flexibility and becomes brittle.

When a shingle fails the pliability test, it is telling us something important: the material no longer has the resilience it needs to keep performing as a reliable roofing system.

That creates two major problems:

First, normal weather movement can now cause the shingles to crack or break.

Second, even a small repair becomes difficult because lifting one brittle shingle can damage several surrounding it. At that point, repairing one area may simply create new weak points somewhere else.

The roof may still look acceptable from the ground—but the material itself is showing that it has reached the end of its useful service life.

That’s why we don’t determine a roof’s condition by age alone. We inspect how the shingles are actually performing.

If your roof is becoming brittle, curling, cracking, or losing granules, don’t wait for a ceiling stain to tell you it’s time. Have it professionally evaluated while you still have time to plan instead of being forced to react.

A leak in your living room is bad enough.

Having multiple roofers look at it—and still not being able to tell you where the water is coming from—is even worse.

That was the situation Zach and Danielle found themselves in. They knew their roof was leaking because they could see the damage inside their home, but the actual source of the problem remained hidden.

Fortunately, they already knew who they could trust.

Zach and Danielle were repeat customers of Targeted Construction Services. We carefully followed the evidence, found the problem the others had missed, and gave them a real solution instead of another guess.

Now, the leak that started in their living room has ended with a completed new roof—and no more wondering every time it rains.

Being called back by a past customer means more to us than any advertisement ever could. It means the experience we gave them the first time earned enough trust for them to call us again when something truly mattered.

Thank you, Zach and Danielle, for continuing to trust our family with your home.

If you have a roof leak that no one else has been able to find, give Targeted Construction Services a call. Sometimes the difference is simply knowing where—and how—to look.

One of the biggest factors in your roof's lifespan isn't what you see, it's how well it breathes.

Proper attic ventilation requires the right balance of intake and exhaust airflow. That's why we install intake vents and create the airflow channels needed to move fresh air in through the soffits and hot, humid air out through the top of the roof.

Without adequate ventilation, moisture can build up beneath your roof deck, leading to wood rot, mold, reduced energy efficiency, and premature roof failure. Investing in the right ventilation today helps protect your home for years to come.

Want to know if your roof is ventilated correctly? Schedule a Targeted Inspection with Targeted Construction today.
