Open shelving looks beautiful on Pinterest—but real life is different.

Those stunning inspiration photos are carefully styled for the camera. Every mug, bowl, and plate is intentionally placed. In a real home, open shelves display everything—including everyday clutter.

That's why I love using open shelving as an accent for artwork, books, or a few meaningful pieces, not as the primary storage solution. The goal is a kitchen that's beautiful to live in, not one that feels like it needs to be restyled every day.
