Hosting Guests This Labor Day? Let’s Keep the Plumbing Out of the Party. 😂🇺🇸
More people in the house = more showers, more toilet flushes, more dishes, and more opportunities for your plumbing to decide it would like to be the center of attention.
Before the family shows up, here are a few easy things you can do:
🚽 **Put a plunger by the toilet.**
A clean plunger sitting nearby can save everyone from the awkward “Hey… your toilet is doing something weird” conversation.
🗑️ **Make the trash can obvious.**
Wipes, paper towels, cotton swabs, etc. belong in the trash—not on a one-way trip down the toilet.
🚽 **Test your guest bathroom toilets.**
Give them a flush before company arrives. If one is already slow, Labor Day weekend is probably not the time to find out how many flushes it takes to win that battle.
🍔 **Be nice to the garbage disposal.**
Large amounts of food scraps, potato peels, grease, and corn husks can turn your disposal from “helpful kitchen appliance” into “expensive noise maker.”
💧 **Check those slow drains.**
Run some hot water through the sinks and make sure they're draining properly before the cooking and dishwashing marathon begins.
🥤 **Watch what goes down the sink.**
Leftover drinks are fine—fruit slices, straws, stirrers, and random party debris? Not so much. Your drain isn't a trash can with plumbing.
🚰 **Know where your main shut-off is.**
If a pipe decides to spring a leak while everyone is gathered around the grill, knowing how to shut the water off quickly can save you from a much bigger mess.
A few minutes of prevention can mean the difference between “What a great Labor Day!” and “Who knows a plumber?” 😂
