Chicks
Little nuggets are enjoying fresh grass and lots of room to be chicks tonight. Normally we start them outside when we get them, but the cold wet weather had other plans. They spent 4 days where they could stay warm and dry. Did you know chicks like it 90 degrees for the first week of life!
They will be moved to fresh grass as they eat and in about 6 weeks they will be ready!
Here at BNB nothing goes to waste! Whether its feeding our animals or going to the compost pile to feed the soil. I found this split watermelon yesterday so Poppy got a treat!
We strive to use everything to its fullest!
Fall meat birds
Ready or not fall meat birds are here!! Call us crazy or passionate about homegrown food, but they always taste great!! We will have a limited supply this time and they will be fresh not frozen !!!
Nolan was eager to help and so thankful we are showing them this lifestyle!!
Zucchini and squash are growing like weeds! It’s always a blessing to be able to eat fresh local produce. It tastes better and lasts longer.
Moved the meat birds to their final patch of grass before they are ready for freezers.
These kids are the reason for BNB and continue to help run it. They are learning life skills and so much.
When you buy from BNB just know it’s going straight to these kids’ dreams!
When your husband gets a new machine he is willing to help you out! Score! A full loader of compost!
At BNB our garden is no till. No till provides the benefits of:
1. The kids can work a shovel to haul compost over running a tiller 🙌🏻😂
2. No-till helps build soil health and prevent erosion. That soil health helps build healthy productive plants. Giving good nutrient dense produce!
3. Helps maintain moisture which is so needed when rain doesn’t look promising 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
4. Eventually less weeds over time which means less work!
The garden is a classroom. Nature/weather is ever changing, but the principles all stay the same. Spending time and just observing nature can be peaceful and learn so much.
Daydreaming of all the tomatoes over here as the small seedlings are potted up!! Shooting for a goal to bring more tomatoes to our market table the summer!! 🍅🍅
