Remember what was hiding underneath yesterday's roof?

This is how it looks now.

The damaged decking was removed and replaced, the problems underneath were taken care of, and THEN the new roof went on.

Yesterday’s roof replacement was a good reminder that sometimes the biggest problems are the ones you can’t see.

Once the old roof came off, we found areas of damaged and rotted decking underneath. Some areas had deteriorated enough that there were holes straight through the wood.

There’s really no way to know exactly what we’ll find until we get everything uncovered. But once we find it, we make it right before moving forward with the new roof.

You’d never know this was hiding under the shingles.

We found this damaged decking around a plumbing pipe during a roof replacement. From the ground, sure, things might have looked ok. But really, it was just quietly doing damage underneath.

That’s the thing about roofs. A lot can be happening up there long before you notice anything inside your home.

We thought “shingle shrinking” was an interesting one, too.

A homeowner called us after receiving a letter from his insurance company stating they would not renew his policy unless he replaced his roof due to “shingle shrinking.”

He was understandably upset. And honestly, we were upset for him. So we wanted to do whatever we could to help him get some answers.

We evaluated the roof, photographed everything from multiple angles, documented what we found, and worked with his local insurance agent.

There was nothing wrong with the roof that required replacement.

After all of the documentation was reviewed, his policy was renewed.

And everything we did to help him? No charge.

Not every roof we evaluate needs to be replaced. And an insurance company saying you need a new roof doesn't necessarily mean you do.

Sometimes you just need someone willing to spend a little more time to take a closer look.
