What to do about nutsedge in or around your garden bed 👇🏾

Effective removal methods:

• Manual Digging: Use a garden fork or shovel to dig 6 inches deep around the plant. Gently lever up the soil to loosen the root network and extract the tiny underground “nuts”. Do not pull straight up, or the stem will snap and leave the tubers behind.

• Targeted Herbicides: Apply a selective nutsedge killer like SedgeHammer or Covington Nursery. If using a non-selective w**d killer like glyphosate, dab it carefully onto the leaves using a sponge to avoid touching your desirable garden plants.

• Depletion and Solarization: Cover the area with heavy cardboard or clear plastic to block sunlight, forcing the tubers to exhaust their stored energy reserves.

Someone asked what else can you do with loofah (luffa) other than use it for scrubbing… you can apparently make bread with it, if you pulls it while it’s young!

It’s time…. Come harvest loofah with me!!

I just couldn’t wait to pull this loofah! It’s still green, but that’s alright… 😅🤣

I actually think it’s easier to appeal this way. My technique has been to open up the bottom of it the day before I plan to harvest it. That way it’s not as wet and mushy on the inside… then, I harvest and peel it the next day. The loofah exterior comes off super easy!
