In the South, ceilings are often painted a shade of blue called “haint blue” for both cultural and practical reasons. Traditionally, this color, rooted in Gullah culture, is believed to protect homes by warding off spirits known as “haints.” Additionally, blue ceilings create a serene, sky-like atmosphere and are thought to deter insects, as the color resembles water, which bugs avoid. This mix of tradition, practicality, and visual appeal makes blue ceilings a popular choice in Southern homes. Here is the color Palladian Blue by Benjamin Moore. We used Eurolux Housepaint that gave this porch ceiling a stunning appearance and calming feel.
