Same footprint — completely different kitchen. 🔁

This Dayton kitchen went from dark, closed-off cabinets to a bright, open space built to last: warm greige cabinetry, a big center island with seating, a full tile backsplash, under-cabinet lighting, and new stainless appliances. The layout barely moved — the light and the finishes did the heavy lifting.

Would you keep your kitchen’s layout, or open it up like this?

An architect can absolutely be worth the money. That doesn’t mean every kitchen remodel needs to start with one.

Here’s a real one: a homeowner paid about $16,000 for architectural plans before bringing us in on their kitchen + bath. Great plans — but once we started, we still had to work through the cabinetry, selections, lighting, mirrors and tile with them… and the cabinets still needed their own detailed drawings before they could be ordered.

The lesson isn’t “architect vs. remodeler.” It’s making sure you’re paying for the RIGHT LEVEL of design for your actual scope. For a lot of kitchen remodels — layout, cabinetry, counters, appliances, lighting, finishes — you may already have most of that design work covered by a design-build team, because we have to draw your cabinetry anyway.

Big structural or architectural changes? An architect may be exactly who you need. Mostly a kitchen redesign? Start the conversation with a kitchen design-build pro first — it could save you thousands before demolition even starts.

This upstairs bathroom didn’t need prettier tile. It needed a whole new plan. 🛁

We took a cramped upstairs bath — a one-piece fiberglass shower stall, a wall-hung sink, and dead space under the eaves — back to the studs and rebuilt the layout from scratch. In its place: a frameless-glass walk-in shower with large-format stone-look tile and a marble-look basketweave floor + niche, a custom vanity with stone-look counters and brushed-nickel fixtures, and built-in drawers with a butcher-block top in the hall for the storage they never had.

Would you have kept the original layout — or gutted it like we did? 👇

One of these kitchens has to go. 👀 Don’t decide too fast…

Because here’s the twist: you’re not picking a kitchen for the ‘gram — you have to LIVE with it for the next 10 years. 🏡

So play along as you swipe:
▪️ Which style survives — A, B or C?
▪️ You get ONE: oversized island, max storage, statement range, or a built-in coffee bar?
▪️ You can splurge on ONE: cabinetry, countertops, appliances or flooring?

By the end you’ve basically started designing your kitchen — and you haven’t picked a single cabinet door yet. That’s exactly how good kitchen design should start: with how YOU actually live.

We design-build kitchens like these across Dayton & the Miami Valley.

👇 Drop your combo: Style + Must-Have + Splurge (e.g. “A + Huge Island + Cabinets”) and I’ll tell you what I’d change about your pick.

Sage green, white veining, and a lot of natural light 🌿

This primary bath got an inset-style double vanity in a soft sage finish, with an arched toe kick and plenty of drawers. On top is a white veined countertop with two undermount sinks, framed by square shade sconces. Behind the frameless glass, the shower is wrapped floor to ceiling in glossy elongated subway tile.

Would you go green on a vanity, or stick with white? 👇

Most people move. They stayed. ❤️

Our clients are getting older, and they had one goal: to keep living in the home they love — with a bathroom that’s easy and safe to use for years to come.

The problem was the big step-over soaking tub. Climbing over a tall tub wall only gets harder with age, and riskier if balance is ever a concern. So we planned ahead. We reframed the whole area to fit a true ZERO-ENTRY (curbless) shower — no step, roll-in ready if a wheelchair is ever needed, with a built-in bench and waterproofing done right. (And we wrapped the house in plastic and ram board the whole time.)

The result: a shower that’s safe, wide-open, and genuinely beautiful — dual shower systems, a bench, a pebble floor — plus a refreshed his-and-hers vanity with quartz counters.

That’s what aging in place should look like. You don’t leave the home you love — you make it work for the next chapter. 🙌

They were told to just live with it. We disagreed. 🔨

This galley kitchen came with the house — flat cabinets, laminate tops, dark wood paneling, and barely any joy. The problem was never the size (a galley works fine). It just hadn’t been touched in decades.

So we kept the footprint and changed everything else: warm maple shaker cabinets, white quartz countertops, subway tile to the ceiling, real storage, and better light. Same galley — brand-new heart of the home.

You don’t always need more square feet. Sometimes the space you already have just needs to finally work. 🙌

Swipe through the whole story 👉 and tell us: would you have kept the galley layout, or blown out a wall?
