As the World Cup comes to a close and Seattle takes its final bow on the world stage, we're looking back at one of our proudest projects: transforming the top of the iconic Space Needle into a giant soccer ball.

Throughout the tournament, images and video of the Needle appeared on broadcasts and social media around the globe — and the Long Painting team made it happen.

We're honored to have played a part in such an unforgettable moment for our city.

Long Painting Company just transformed the Space Needle's rooftop into a giant soccer ball — 3,500 square feet of geometrically precise pentagon panels on a curved surface, visible from the sky during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Nobody had ever done this before. We engineered the solution and executed it perfectly.

Before we mobilize, we train.

Two weeks ago, our team ran a full shop mock-up ahead of an upcoming wet well rehabilitation project — and the results speak for themselves.

🔲 Surface prep: Hydro blasted six ecology blocks to achieve a CSP 5 profile, matching the specification for the actual wet well concrete.

🪣 Mortar application: Applied Duraplate 2300 resurfacing mortar via spray and manual trowel, finished with a stiff bristle brush to achieve the CSP 2–3 profile needed for coating adhesion.

🔧 Plural-component application: Our pump operator set up per manufacturer PDS recommendations and applied Duraplate 6100 at 100–150 mils wet — exceeding the 95-mil project spec.

✅ QC/QA: The coating cured with exceptional hardness and durability. It held up to direct sledgehammer impact.
This kind of pre-job preparation is how we protect our clients' assets, develop crew proficiency, and eliminate surprises in the field.
