World Kitchen Garden Day Party 2026🍅🫑🌶️

As usual, great conversation and fun were in abundance for any of us to think about taking pictures. Fortunately, Rachel didn’t pass up capturing Scott’s impression of the gigantic Trombocino squash growing on one of the cattle panels!

Even though it rained most of the day, we were able to take walks out for garden tours here and there.

Everyone brought a dish prepared with at least one ingredient from either their garden, a friend, relative or neighbor’s garden. Even a pot of basil qualified!
Well what a feast we had!
And such fun with wonderful, likeminded folks.

Thank you to everyone who attended, for being such great sports with the rainy conditions.💚

Back by popular demand-String of Hearts💚

We received a couple plant deliveries this week friends, but giving you just an itty bitty peak.

Curious? Come on in!
I never tire of bringing home a new plant baby. Even though I have shop filled with life, I love adding more to my home. 🪴

String of Hearts are fairly easy to grow. Indirect bright light and water when dry. You want to make sure the crown of the plant receives ample light. Not just the strings.

26 years of growth doesn’t happen by chance; it happens because of the incredible people who have poured their hearts into this space!
I’m looking back with such gratitude for all those who have been part of this journey along the way and built this business alongside me into what it is today!

Since we were on the subject of Friendship Park, I wanted to share the photo of a most wonderful winter’s evening.

Laurie Schleif became a dear friend soon after she started working at Equinox many moons ago. I bet at least 20! She and her hubby lived upstairs where LuLu Birds is now. One beautiful winter evening we thought to have some fun and create smiling faces on the trees across the street in Friendship Park. I honestly don’t remember the details of the inspiration. But what matters, is that we had so much fun painting smiles on all the trees with snow! It was the perfect packing snow. The air temperature was just right.

I just love that little park.
And so did Laurie. She spent many hours lovingly tending the garden beds.

We didn’t use our phones back then to take pics like we do now. So photos of the early days are few. I’m grateful for these that I have, of that fun winter evening and of her in the shop being adorable as always.

Maybe this winter we’ll paint smiling faces on the trees again. For Laurie, who’s no longer on this earth with us.

Did you know Equinox has been in downtown Kenosha for 26 years now? This month I want to focus on some of the great people and memories from over the years – starting today with some shots from the past!

After 26 years of seeing either a blank white or distressed brick wall across from us in Friendship Park, it’s a breath of fresh air watching that wall come to life with color. But also come to life with hope.

It’s fun seeing the kids, the community bring their hope, or perhaps gain some hope that one day we can all live in harmony. 🙏

Thank you Tia Richardson and Kenosha Coalition for Dismantling Racism group for bringing more life to Friendship Park. It seems quite appropriate in fact!

As August comes to an end, I hope you all are taking time for peaceful moments in your garden.
The weeds will be there, but it’s important to take the time to see and appreciate all its beauty.

Weeds and all.

Conditioning your cut flowers for drying is also essential.

After about 24hrs of being conditioned I bundle 5-10 stems and secure with a rubber band rather than twine.
That’s my preferred method as over the years I’ve done both. But with twine, as the stems become dehydrated you can find them on the floor! So I keep it simple and bundle them with the rubberband.

First year in a dorm room, these besties knew they needed to have one of my dried flower posies for their new space. Even though they’ll be many miles from each other, they each now have a botanical creation in a cobalt blue bottle. Hannah and Kayla are now also Botanical sisters! 💚

And don’t you just love little bouquets, especially when you see and talk with the person who grew them!
