Seeing crabgrass showing up in your lawn this August? You're not alone!

Crabgrass is a warm-season annual grassy w**d that thrives during the hottest part of summer. Seeds germinate earlier in the season as soil temperatures warm, but by July and August the plants are mature, spreading quickly, and much easier to notice.

Why is it showing up now?

Crabgrass loves heat, thin turf, bare spots, and stressed areas. Lawns that are cut too short or have areas weakened by summer heat and irrigation issues give crabgrass the perfect opportunity to take over.

The key to crabgrass control is a combination of proper mowing, healthy dense turf, pre-emergent applications in the spring, and treating breakthrough plants when appropriate.
