Stay Diligent During the Freeze! ❄️

Southshore: No freezing temps expected overnight, so there’s no need to run your water.

Northshore: Freezing conditions continue. Make sure to run both hot and cold water to keep pipes from freezing.

⚠️ Attention: As pipes begin to thaw, hidden leaks may start showing up later in the day—sometimes up to 24 hours after freezing temps. Be proactive:

• Locate your main water shut-off valve now so you’re ready to act fast if a leak occurs.

• Keep an eye on shady, uninsulated areas under your house or exposed pipes—they’re the most vulnerable.

We’re here for you if you need us!

📞 Call us anytime at 504-262-8222.

Rooter Man’s Quick Tips: Protect Your Pipes This Winter
Frozen pipes can lead to costly damage. Here's how to stay ahead of the freeze:
1. Keep Water Moving
o Run hot and cold water at a slow stream, especially in unheated areas or faucets farthest from the main line.
o For pools, ensure water is circulating to prevent freezing.
2. Check Your Water Service
o Regularly inspect the main water line where it enters your home for signs of freezing or reduced flow.
3. Know Where Pipes Are at Risk
o Pipes in unheated spaces (attics, crawl spaces, basements) or along exterior walls are the most vulnerable.
4. Side Notes to Keep in Mind
o Check attic vents for any snow or ice infiltration, as excess buildup can cause additional issues.
o Inspect outdoor water heater vents and ensure they remain clear and unobstructed.
o Secure outdoor units and vents to prevent them from shifting or being blocked by snow and ice.
o Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate around the pipes.
5. Relieve Pressure the Safe Way
o The safest fixture to turn on to relieve pressure is the bathtub faucet. It handles larger volumes of water and reduces the risk of damage.
6. Watch for Warning Signs
o Frost on pipes, bulges, foul smells from drains, or no water when you turn on the faucet could mean trouble.
7. What to Do if Pipes Freeze
o Shut off your main water supply immediately.
o Open faucets to relieve pressure.
o Use a hair dryer or space heater to carefully thaw accessible pipes—but never an open flame.
8. Act Fast
o If you notice leaks, suspect damage, or experience frozen water service, call a professional plumber immediately.
When disaster strikes, trust the emergency plumbing crew at Rooter Man. We’re here to keep your pipes and water systems safe all winter long!

Rooter Man Freeze Update

We’re in this a little longer than expected, folks, so here’s what you need to know:

The protection phase is done—now it’s all about keeping water moving at a safe pace to prevent freezing. Here are your keys to success:

• Hot and cold water should run at a slow stream from the faucet farthest from the water meter or main line.

• Avoid overusing water to conserve system pressure.

• Set an alarm if needed: Every couple of hours, flush a toilet or run a faucet for a few seconds to keep things moving.

• Temps will stay in the 20s, so stay vigilant tonight and tomorrow night.

Short, small bursts of water flow can make all the difference. Let’s keep those pipes safe!

Stay diligent, stay warm,
Rooter Man
