It finally cooled off. Before you touch that thermostat, do this first.

Every October we get the same calls — someone flips to heat for the first time, the house fills with a burning smell, and panic sets in. Usually it's just dust burning off the elements. But sometimes it's not.

Here's your 60-second first-heat check:
→ Set the thermostat to HEAT and bump it 5° above room temp
→ Give it 2–3 minutes. Hear it kick on? Good.
→ Burning smell that hangs around longer than 5 minutes? Turn it off and call us.
→ No heat at all? Same answer.
