In preparation for overnight lows and a freeze warning, here are some steps you can take to protect your sprinkler system:

• wrap the PVB/backflow in a towel or blanket and cover it with a trash bag: this insulates the backflow

• turn your controller to “off” or unplug it: this will prevent the system from running and exposing heads to water and cold air

• turn the valve on your mainline to your PVB/Backflow off: by turning this valve off, you prevent any broken/frozen pipes from gushing water until you discover the damage!

• call us and have us come winterize your system: our books are open and we’re still taking on winterizations!

HERE IT IS❄️‼️ The Official NOAA Climate Winter Outlook has been released for its 2026-2027 winter season (December to February).

⚠️-A very strong to potentially historic El Niño will be the driving force for the large scale weather pattern that will have massive swings in Temperature & Precipitation. With high confidence of Above Average Precipitation in the Southern US where a dominant subtropical jet stream will be present. This is where we will likely see focus of an active stormy pattern with Winter Weather & Severe Weather threats.

✅This is a generalized climate outlook by average, not a day-by-day weather forecast. There will be periods of VERY FRIGID AIR, WINTER STORMS, and even snow.

Another potentially powerful Colorado Low could bring snow and other significant weather impacts next week! Unlike the previous system, this one won't have tropical characteristics, and model guidance is already showing good agreement on a strong system developing. The biggest question is how much cold air will be in place, but a rapidly deepening cyclone could help pull colder air south and make things interesting for snow. As you can see in the ensemble image below, storm tracks still vary considerably, so details remain uncertain this far out.

~Widespread Frosts/Freezes~

Around normal or even later than normal this time of year (first frost forecast doing well though) for frosts and freezes so this shouldn't come as a surprise to you. It appears we will finally get a strong enough cold front later this week (consistent trends for the last seven days) to push temperatures down into the 30s and even upper 20s Friday through Sunday mornings. Frost formation occurs in the mid-30s so a large chunk of the region will likely get their first frosts later this week if you haven't yet.
