Ever wonder how a 3-lite slider actually works?

This is an Alside Mezzo 3-lite sliding window. The two outside sashes operate horizontally, giving you ventilation from either side, while the center section stays stationary.

What’s interesting is how the sash system is put together. As we show in the video, the side sashes can be removed, while the center sash is secured in place with brackets so it remains fixed during normal operation.

That removable design also makes the operating sashes much easier to access for cleaning and service. Alside specifically notes that Mezzo sliding sashes lift out for convenient cleaning, while the narrowline frame is designed to maximize glass area and the roller system provides smooth operation.

Simple operation, plenty of glass, and a lot more going on behind the scenes than you might think.

Proper WRB integration is all about managing water and giving it a clear path out and away from the home.

From the bottom up:
1. Flash the sill
2. Seal around the opening
3. Flash over the nail fin
4. Overlap the house wrap over the flashing

Each layer works with the next to help prevent water intrusion while creating a properly sealed window opening.

We use low-expansion window and door foam to insulate and air seal the space between the new window and the rough opening. Done correctly, it helps reduce unwanted air movement without putting excessive pressure on the window frame.

A window doesn’t keep water out by itself. The entire exterior system has to work together.

Siding is the first line of defense, but water can still get behind it. That’s why the weather barrier and window flashing matter.

Properly installed flashing directs water away from the window opening, while the housewrap overlaps and integrates with that flashing to keep water moving down and back to the exterior instead of into the wall.

It’s not just about having the right products. It’s about installing every layer in the right order so they work together as one system.

When we install a full replacement window, the flashing sequence matters:

Bottom first.
Sides next.
Top last.

Each layer overlaps the one below it to help direct water down and away from the window opening instead of allowing it to work its way behind the window.

Once everything is finished, you’ll never see this part of the installation again. But it’s one of the details that helps protect your home long after the job is done.

It’s the little details that make a difference.

When we install a full replacement window with a nail fin, we use exterior-rated fasteners designed to withstand the conditions they’ll face inside an exterior wall assembly.

Proper fastener type, length, pe*******on, and corrosion resistance all play a role in securely attaching the window to the structure. And because every window system can have different requirements, manufacturer installation specifications always matter.

Once the project is finished, you’ll probably never see these screws again.

But doing the things you don’t see correctly is a big part of doing the job right.
