You’ll never see this part again.

Once the concrete goes down, the drainage pipe, the compacted base, and the curved forms are gone. All you see is a clean walkway.

But those buried steps decide whether it lasts 20 years or floods after one storm.

What we handle before a single yard gets poured:

🔹 Drainage pipe laid first, with the right slope
🔹 Base graded and compacted, no soft spots
🔹 Curves formed by hand, not forced
🔹 Everything checked before the truck arrives

Pretty finishes hide bad prep. Good prep never needs hiding.

Quick test. What are we building here?

A) Driveway
B) Walkway
C) Patio
D) Parking lot

Comment your guess 👇 I’ll reveal the answer in the final seconds.

Here’s what the pros notice right away:

🔹 Green pipe = drainage is already handled
🔹 Tight forms on the curve = clean lines after the pour
🔹 Bare, graded dirt = base is ready to be compacted

Most people see a messy lot. Contractors see a job that’s already set up to succeed.

Most walkways don’t fail because of the concrete. They fail because of what was skipped before it.

Hot take: if your contractor talks about finish before drainage, find a new contractor.

Here’s the order that actually matters:

1️⃣ Drainage first, so water has an exit
2️⃣ Grade and compact the base, no soft spots
3️⃣ Set forms tight, especially on curves
4️⃣ Concrete last

Flip that order and you’re paying for it after the first big rain.

the money is made or lost.

Dirt. Pipe. A few boards bent into a curve. In a week, all of it disappears under a clean walkway and nobody thinks about it again.

But if any of it is wrong, you’ll find out the hard way:

🔹 Soft base means settling and cracks
🔹 Bad drainage means standing water at the door
🔹 Loose forms mean wavy, cheap-looking curves

The finished product is only as good as the part nobody sees.

Same lot. Same concrete. Different prep. Completely different result.

📌 Save this for your next project.

Technically it’s water. Technically it’s a break. We’ll let HR decide🤣

Nothing like landscaping in triple digit heat while the client waves from the pool, cold drink in hand. No hard feelings, it’s their backyard. Just extremely funny timing every single time. 😅

Take our time in an attic that feels like an oven. Sure thing. 😅 This is the part of the job nobody sees in the before-and-afters😭

No caption needed. The struggle speaks for itself. 😅🏊

No, we’re not doing free landscaping (we wish).
This is day 1 — just grading and prep.

The real investment comes later, once the drainage, hardscaping, and plants go in. But this first step? It’s the foundation for everything else, and it’s often underestimated.

Most people think landscaping is the plants. It’s actually everything that happens before the plants.

Curious what a project like this actually costs?
