Actually, that's one of the reasons to bring in a professional.

You can start with: “I hate this layout" or, “We need more storage." Or how about, “This room is always dark!”

Lighting can make—or break—a beautiful room. Instead of relying on one overhead fixture, think in layers:

Ambient lighting for the overall room
Task lighting where work happens
Accent lighting to add warmth and dimension

In a kitchen, that might mean recessed lights + pendants + under-cabinet lighting. Good lighting shouldn't just help you see the room. It should help create the way the room feels.
