BEFORE ➜ AFTER: 3-Tier Retaining Wall Refresh. 🧱

This homeowner-built wall was 26 years old and ready for a full replacement. We tore out the old blocks and installed a new three-tier retaining wall with a matching cap for a cleaner, bolder look and a more defined edge along the driveway.

The key to longevity is what you don’t see: we included proper drainage behind the wall to relieve water pressure and help this wall stay straight and solid for the long haul.

PROBLEM → SOLUTION (Kansas City drainage) 🌧️

This area in the back of the property was acting like a funnel — runoff from the neighbor’s & the client’s yard all drained to the same spot, but water didn’t have a clean exit path. When water can’t leave, it finds its way into places you don’t want it.

The plan: create a new low point, capture the runoff, and give it a clear route out.

What we installed:
✅ Catch basin to collect surface water
✅ French drain to intercept flow and move it efficiently
✅ Fabric separation to keep soils and stone from mixing over time
✅ 2” Ozark decorative river rock for clean, durable coverage
✅ Steel edging (green) for crisp lines and long-term containment
✅ Extended the wall to tie into the neighbor’s fence for a finished edge
✅ Routed discharge to a clean outlet near the driveway so the water exits the property.
