Fifteen years ago today, the Helzberg Hall at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts welcomed its first audience, marking the beginning of a new era for the arts in Kansas City. Amy and Sean were honored to attend the opening celebrations in recognition of Amy’s contributions to the project during her time at BNIM. Even today, each visit to the Kauffman Center is a "pinch ourselves" moment and serves as a reminder of what visionary collaboration can accomplish and how fortunate Kansas City is to have such an incredible performance venue is here in our home town.

Congratulations to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts on 15 years of serving our community with innovation and grace and for elevating the arts in our region through world class programming.

Cheers 🥂

While the world was visiting Kansas City, our Director of Planning, Brian Michener, went to Detroit for the Project for Public Spaces' 5th International Placemaking Week. The Placemaking Week is a global gathering of urban enthusiasts that offers hands-on learning through on-site tours, panel discussions, and moderated conversations. Over four days, Brian experienced the powerful places that recognized Detroit’s past, the significance they held in our nation’s history, and leveraged current community support to craft powerful public spaces.

is a crucial public transit agency who recently completed a 20,000 SF renovation that prioritized staff equity, interdepartmental functionality, and access to natural daylight and office amenities.
A thoughtful mix of workstations, collaboration areas, private meeting spaces, wellness amenities, and a dedicated lounge for transit operators supports a variety of work styles and employee needs.
Additional stewardship-driven building renovations included a roof replacement as well as a new solar array. The result is an energy-efficient workplace that promotes comfort, connection, and well-being while reflecting KCATA's commitment to investing in its workforce.

The most impactful solutions begin with understanding the people they serve.
For more than 65 years, First Call has been a trusted resource for individuals, families, and communities affected by alcohol, drugs, and addiction. As the organization evolved, it recognized an opportunity to create a facility that better reflected its mission—one that is welcoming, accessible, and supportive from the moment someone arrives.
For many, the journey toward recovery begins at the front door. Our work with First Call focused on studying opportunities for a more intuitive and connected environment that reduces barriers, strengthens access to services, and supports meaningful human connection. By reimagining how the building serves staff, visitors, and families, we worked to shape a vision centered on dignity, hope, and healing.
The result is a strategic, cost-conscious plan that could enhance collaboration, improve daily operation, and empower First Call to focus on what matters most: providing compassionate care and critical resources to those who need them most.

Opportunities like Water Days remind us why community involvement matters. Supporting organizations that are making a difference in Kansas City not only benefits our community, but also strengthens our own sense of purpose and connection. As the lens shifts from global events such as the World Cup, we at SLATTERY also find joy in looking close to home and recognizing the incredible work taking place in our own neighborhood.

We’re grateful to The Children's Place for welcoming us and for the compassion, expertise, and dedication they bring to children and families throughout Kansas City.

And to our friends at Centric , thank you for keeping everyone fed and for being such good sports when the water balloons started flying.

The University of Saint Mary tasked us with developing a Campus Master Plan that addresses immediate institutional needs while establishing a framework to guide future building renewal, development, and enhancement of the entire campus.

The academics-focused plan aligns with USM’s mission, strategic goals, and university programs. It achieves this through the careful reimagining of existing spaces that can better serve students, faculty, and the broader campus community well into the future.

This durable roadmap invests in USM's legacy buildings, fostering a commitment to stewardship for the next 100 years.
