With Kansas City temperatures dropping from the 90s to the 50s this week, our next look at the details behind a better build feels especially timely: HVAC installation.

While much of this work at our Woodland Reverse plan in walnutreserveks will eventually be hidden behind walls and ceilings, the decisions made now play an important role in how the home functions for years to come.

A properly designed HVAC system does more than heat and cool a home. It also helps manage indoor humidity, maintain consistent temperatures, and distribute conditioned air efficiently throughout the home. At the rim joists, we typically apply 2–3 inches of closed-cell foam to create an effective air seal, limit heat transfer, and help manage moisture. We also carefully address the headers above windows and doors, using strategic insulation to reduce thermal bridging and improve the home's overall thermal envelope.

But materials are only part of the equation. Before insulation begins, we walk every single home, examining the framing, identifying potential trouble spots, and addressing details that could otherwise be overlooked once the walls are closed.

Framed by three custom pivoting iron-and-glass doors created by Jason Wilson of DANE FABRICATION, the lounge is only one part of the story. The feature also highlights the floating white-oak framework along the entry hall, developed by Ben Cox alongside designer Dana Mulch (Home Style Design), and the dramatic tiered stairwell chandelier sourced by Ben Parra of Rensen House of Lights.

Each started with an idea, then became something more through the perspective, craftsmanship, and creativity of trusted partners.
