If you only modify one room for aging in place, make it the bathroom. That is where the falls happen.

A curbless shower, blocking in the walls for grab bars, a comfort height toilet, better lighting, and slip resistant flooring cover most of it. Done during a normal remodel, these choices add very little cost and none of them have to look institutional.

Refacing and replacing cabinets are not the same decision, and one is not automatically the better value.

If your cabinet boxes are solid and the layout already works, refacing gets you a new look without a full teardown. If the boxes are failing, the storage is wrong, or you want to change where things sit, replacement is the honest answer.
