Sometimes falling behind on yard work has nothing to do with laziness or a lack of pride. Some seasons of life can simply become overwhelming.

This week a woman reached out asking for help in her yard, mentioning in her first email that she couldn't afford very much.

She had received a letter from a city inspector mentioning possible fines and even imprisonment as a potential down-the-road consequence if the yard issue led to municipal court.

When I got to the house I learned that she is a single mom and is her mother's full-time caretaker. Her mother lives with her and is undergoing cancer treatment.

Her lawn was overgrown and had tall weedy overgrowth in the backyard near the fence, under which was brush, limbs, and lots of trash, some of it even bagged. It looked to me that people have been tossing trash over her fence where it stays hidden between the fence and overgrowth.

I told her that I've been wanting to find a way to give back to the community as a way of saying thank you for reaching 100+ Google reviews and would tackle the yard at no cost to her.

Alex and Matthew from Hello Yard helped out because it was a lot. We mowed the lawn, cut back the overgrowth, removed a ton of brush and limbs, filled many bags of trash and removed full bags of old trash. We worked until we ran into exposed wire on the ground and a power line running through a section of growth that we need to get to. Trying to work with the city and utilities now about checking on that so we can take care of the rest.

Hopefully this gives the woman a jumpstart on her yard. Will include before and after pictures in a future post soon along with other yards.

One of the main drivers of Yard Clean Up KC over the last few years has been people sharing their experiences by recommending me to neighbors and sharing online. I am so thankful to have reached 100 Google reviews and am genuinely proud that they're all 5 stars. When someone new reaches out they often mention reading what others have said as the main reason.

At 50 reviews my family and I donated 50 slices of pizza to a local place for their free slice board. We are thinking of a way to give back for this milestone too and will be sharing that soon.

I am thankful to every customer I've had. I enjoy visiting with each of you, your fam, your pets, and oftentimes your neighbor's pets too.

Ten years ago we lost my dad. Glad my mom snapped this picture of him teaching me how to use a lawn mower.

He modeled authenticity and took a genuine interest in people. He always wanted to know more about someone's perspective and their interests and ventures.

It's cliché, but ten years has gone by so quickly.
