At Design Mechanical, Inc., our philosophy of 'Best People, Best Customers, Best Practices' extends far beyond mechanical construction and service. Sometimes, it means recognizing a need and stepping up for our community.

Recently, DMI service technician Brent Holladay was making a repair at the Savior Pastoral Center in Wyandotte County. While on-site, he learned that the center's vehicle kept breaking down. Knowing how vital this facility is to the area, Brent reached out to our Safety and Fleet Director, Michele Haynes, to see if we had a spare vehicle we could donate.

It turns out, we did!

On September 1, 2026, we were honored to hand over the keys to the Savior Pastoral team. DMI CEO Bill Iler, President Brennen Garry, and Brent were all there to present the van. Since its origins as the Savior of the World Seminary in 1960, and its 2006 dedication as a center of catechetical formation and spiritual reflection, this facility has been a pillar of the community. We are absolutely thrilled to help support their ministry and keep them moving forward.

When you are an employee-owned company, taking ownership of community needs comes naturally. Thank you, Brent, for keeping your eyes open and exemplifying the true DMI spirit!

Not many start-ups can say they began by working out of their cars. Today, Design Mechanical, Inc. is celebrating 23 years of building a safe, fun, and rewarding company right here in Kansas City!

We are incredibly honored to be recognized by so many of our peers in the industry with awards for fastest growing company, champion of business and numerous safety awards. These awards reflect the perseverance and hard work of our entire team. When Bill Iler and Mike Chieppo started DMI in September 2003 during a down economy, we had just five employees and no official office. We signed contracts in convenience stores and supermarkets. We did what we had to do to make it work, and we had fun doing it.

Fast forward to today, and DMI has grown into a 100% employee-owned powerhouse. We have moved from those parking lot meetings into a newly renovated 24,000-square-foot headquarters off Cambridge Circle. Our success comes down to a simple philosophy: Best People, Best Customers, Best Practices. By focusing on unbeatable customer service, we have built lasting relationships with prestigious clients across the Midwest.

We now have over 250 families counting on our company, and we are incredibly proud to support them. Thank you to our dedicated employee-owners and the Kansas City community for 23 amazing years. We recently had the privilege of visiting a truly special place in Lawrence, KS, called Cottonwood Industries. Since 1972, this incredible non-profit organization has been providing life-changing services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

As the primary connector for services in Douglas and Jefferson counties, Cottonwood is a vital lifeline for individuals of all ages. During our visit, we even got to see their current project: helping the WWI Museum with a special request for poppy pins.

Witnessing their work firsthand is nothing short of inspiring. Organizations like Cottonwood Industries remind us of the incredible things that happen when we support one another.
