A little friendly competition, a lot of laughs, and plenty of time spent together outside the office!

Our SFS family came together at the Puttery on the Plaza for an afternoon of all-you-can-play mini golf, light bites, drinks, and some friendly competition. It was a great opportunity to bring employees, friends, and families together, enjoy each other’s company, and make memories beyond the workplace.

We’re grateful for the people who make SFS such a fun place to be - on and off the clock! ⛳✨

We were thrilled to welcome students from Kansas City’s .inc to our office last month for a day of exploring architecture, design, and the many possibilities of a career in the built environment! The highlight of the day was a hands-on park design exercise, where students sketched their ideas and identified the amenities they believe are important in creating a welcoming, engaging community space!💡

SFS is honored to be featured in the latest season of America ByDesign TV, a CBS series that celebrates creativity, diversity, and the endless possibilities of human ingenuity. Check out Season 7, Episode 1: Design for Living Well, which features City of Overland Park's Fire Station 41 and SFS Principal, Kwame Smith, AIA.

Overland Park Fire Department’s flagship facility was completed in 2024. It is a 16,000 square foot, four-bay, three-company station that exemplifies the department’s commitment to community safety, the health and well-being of its first responders, and the application of renewable energy in public buildings. The design manages exposure to harmful substances through careful organization, prioritizing occupational health with strict contamination control measures.

The new Lee's Summit Indoor Sports Complex is set to break ground! When the sports complex opens in late 2027 it will feature a flexible gymnasium that accommodates 10 basketball courts, 14 volleyball courts and up to 20 pickleball courts! We’re honored to continue working alongside Lee's Summit Parks and Recreation, from the initial feasibility study through design and construction, and beyond excited to see this shared vision become a reality!

We spent our annual day of service volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on June 24th. Three teams of SFS staff made meals for the families staying at Ronald McDonald House locations, allowing families with children in the hospital to have freshly prepared food while away from home.
