Here is a custom roof curb from a recent project!

This hybrid roof curb is mounted for an R-Panel roof and features a standing seam curb cap to give the customer access to equipment inside the building.

A simple solution and a great example of adapting a system to fit the customer's needs.

Our Saviour Lutheran Church ⛪

Known for the beautiful stained-glass window visible from Rainbow Boulevard, Our Saviour Lutheran is also called “the bread church” due to the commitment to their food pantry ministry. Because the church is already a beacon to the community, the design team at BNIM may have used that thought in the creation of a new lantern feature during their remodeling efforts.

Using an existing stair tower form, the design team elevated that feature, turning it into a lantern or beacon for the community.

SSM used just over a thousand square feet of custom perforated, 3/16″ thick aluminum plate to clad the tower. The panels are painted white, roughly 4′ x 8′ in size and continue around the tower, extending above it.

Down low, the panels are solids, with a brick pattern being perforated into the panels. The pattern is derived from the brick work on the existing tower and is expressed as perforations. The pattern then reverses as the panels are perforated and the brick pattern becomes a solid shape.

Continuing the remodel to the entry, almost 650 square feet of bent plate, louver fins create a new canopy structure. Painted to match the tower panels, the new canopy extends the entry feature out over the landscaping, tying it all together.

A special thank you to BNIM on their elegant and thoughtful design, which helped bring this project to life, and to Pearce Construction for their leadership and ex*****on as the General Contractor. We are proud to have contributed to a project made possible through the collaboration, craftsmanship, and dedication of such outstanding partners.

Crimson Club🏀 - Decorative Feature Elements

Creating a connected experience between the concourse and the concession stand, The Crimson Club celebrates KU’s basketball legacy.

In response to the design team’s efforts, SSM worked with solid aluminum plate and woven wire mesh to create the various feature elements and column covers.

The picture frame openings are fabricated from. 1/2″ aluminum plate attached to custom hardware with counter sunk, torx fasteners.

The bar shelving units are fabricated from 1/4″ plate, with tabs that connect to the backer panel. Tabs are welded to the backer panel from behind for a clean appearance and the completed assembly was painted.

Bar elements are picture framed with a “knife edge” 1/8″ thick frame that utilizes our gravity lock connection system that captures a custom perforated 1/4″ aluminum plate. All components painted in the signature colors shown.

11th & Mississippi- David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium 🏈

Design partners HNTB and Multistudio collaborated to reinvent the college stadium experience. The Gateway District is a mixed use development that incorporates year round meeting spaces and improvements to the football stadium — transforming the KU campus from the ground up.

SSM‘s work included the fabrication and installation of the fin elements between the light stands. Fabricated from 1/2″ thick aluminum “T” sections that have an 8″ wide fl**ge and are 10″ deep, these features march around the outside of the bowl, creating a signature feature of the stadium. The top portion of the. fins is curved inward, with. a 43’. – 6″ radius, as if these are stalks of wheat, gently being blown by the wind.

Behind the fin elements, 3 different panel profiles create the cladding for the bowl. Two profiles are painted in champagne bronze color while the third is in metallic finish.

SSM also clad the score. board, creating a new feature focal point at the open end of the bowl and installed feature elements in the interior spaces — included, but not limited to the Kriskadecor metal curtains.

Kansas Department of Health & Environment Lab - Terra Cotta Rainscreen System 🔬

Clad with a terra cotta shingle system, this three-story building houses labs and offices designed to serve the citizens of Kansas.

A state-of-the-art building should have a state of the art envelop to protect it and this open joint rain screen cladding system does just that. With the economy of a modular tile that is light weight and uniform in size, one terra cotta shingle nests into the other in a progressive install. While the design sheds much of the moisture that hits the building, it doesn’t stop it all and that is where a well designed and installed rain screen system comes into play.

The key is to manage that moisture is such a way as to capture it and redirect it out back to daylight. SSM installed a series of horizontal support tracks carry the shingles while allowing gravity to do the thing it likes to do with any moisture behind the system. Flashing components, working with the waterproof membrane, redirects the moisture out. While the trims finish off the exposed edges of the shingles at corners, around windows and the other openings around the building.

SSM also fabricated and installed the other cladding components like the insulated metal panels, the mechanical screens, column covers, fascia cladding and trims.

Working together, these components provide a beautiful, long lasting cladding solution that will protect the interior of this building for years to come.
