Want to accomplish something? Stop keeping it all in your head.

I found an old Action Planner from 2019 that gave me 90 days to set goals, break them into action steps, and actually get to work.

And guess what? A LOT of those goals got checked off.

Looking back at it now is a pretty good reminder that writing things down really does make a difference.

The same applies to business.

You can have the big vision, the great idea, the “someday we're going to…” list — but until you put it on paper and decide what you're actually going to DO, it's just taking up space in your brain.

Projects, finances, marketing, growth, processes… whatever the goal is, write it down.

Break it down. Take the next step.

Does it sound a little hokey?

Maybe. 😂

Does it work?

Apparently. Because I've already ordered another planner (to go along with the years' worth of planners in my desk)

2019 Kim had goals.

2026 Kim has some MORE sh*t to accomplish. 😏

What’s one goal you're putting on paper today?

CROSSFit IN THE MORNING + HOURS OF DANCE TEACHING AT NIGHT = TERRIBLE BUSINESS DECISION. 😂

My legs would like to speak to management.

Last night was our final class of the summer session, so while the kids are getting ready to head back to school, we spent the evening dancing, laughing, and talking about what we're looking forward to in the upcoming season.

New routines. New goals. New things to work toward.

And this little card felt pretty damn appropriate:

Put on your favorite song & dance your worries off.

I'm not saying this is part of our official KNBKC project management system…

…but maybe it should be.

Because when you're juggling projects, schedules, clients, materials, estimates, paperwork, and approximately 47 things you forgot were happening this week, sometimes you need to step away from the problem instead of staring at it harder.

Take a breath.

Change gears.

Go do something that reminds you you're a human being and not just a walking to-do list.

Then come back and tackle the thing.

Preferably after stretching.

Because apparently CrossFit + dance class = tomorrow's problem. 😂

New season. New projects. Still moving.

When the weight of the world is on your shoulders… lift something heavier.

Not a therapist. Not a life coach.

Just a woman standing next to a barbell thinking, “I could either overthink everything… or pick this damn thing up.”

There’s something about doing hard, physical work that clears the noise.

You focus on the next rep. The next cut. The next board. The next thing that needs to get done.

Running a business can feel a lot like that.

Some days the workload is heavy. Some days the problems are heavier.

Sometimes you just have to put your head down, handle the thing in front of you, and keep moving.

You don't always have to carry the weight.

Sometimes you can lift it.

And if all else fails… there’s always another project that needs demo.

Most people know me from KNBKC.

But Monday through Friday, you'll usually find me in a lab coat instead...

This week I had my annual performance review at CMH, and reading my supervisor Paul's comments stopped me for a minute.

"Kim delivered an impressive performance... She consistently exemplifies our core values, manages multiple projects, demonstrates strong technical skills, and is an invaluable member of the team."

This happened during one of the busiest, most chaotic years I've had ever

Running KNBKC.
Working full-time.
Teaching dance.
Being a mom.
Trying to take care of myself somewhere in the middle of all that.

It reminded me that success usually isn't one big heroic moment. It's showing up. Again. And again. And again.

Whether I'm helping develop testing that impacts children's healthcare, managing projects in the lab, or helping homeowners with their biggest investment, the approach is the same.

Be prepared.
Communicate well.
Keep learning.
Do the work.
Take care of people.

Different job. Same standards.

Consistency has a funny way of paying you back when you least expect it.

Turns out running a remodeling business from home looks a lot like... running a doggy revolving door. 🐶

My kiddo had her wisdom teeth removed today, so I'm home playing nurse while she recovers. She's resting comfortably, which is great.

The dogs, however, have interpreted my presence as: "Congratulations! The Human Door Opener is available all day!"

Today's schedule has looked something like this:

Answer an email.
Let a dog out.
Return a phone call.
Let a dog in.
Send an estimate.
Repeat until I consider installing a doggy door... or charging admission.

The reality of owning a small business is that sometimes work happens from a jobsite, and sometimes it happens from the kitchen table with a laptop in one hand and an ice pack in the other.

We're still answering messages, scheduling projects, and keeping everything moving.

If we're a little slower than usual today, it's because our newest project manager has swollen cheeks, and our three furry supervisors have very unrealistic expectations about my availability.

Thanks for your patience... and if anyone has invented a self-opening back door, send Bill the plans. We can probably install one. 😂

Mondays are proof that fresh starts don't have to be dramatic.

Sometimes they're as simple as finally finding hair products that survive the weekend humidity.

Sometimes they're taking a little extra time to recharge before another busy week.

And sometimes they're just noticing that summer is quietly making room for fall.

Funny enough, that's how KNBKC Repairs & Improvements, LLC got its start.
Not with investors. Not with a five-year business plan.

Just a passing comment between Bill and me.

One conversation became another. One project became the next. Before we knew it, that tiny idea had grown into a business built on helping homeowners care for their homes.

That's the thing about Mondays—and about home projects.

Big transformations usually start with one small step.

One phone call. One estimate. One decision to finally stop putting it off.

Here's to fresh starts, finishing summer strong, and taking that first step toward something better.

Happy Monday! 🛠️🌿

"Sorry I'm late, I saw a dog."

Honestly... that's not even an excuse. That's just a priority. 🐶😂

This shirt made me laugh because it reminds me that not everything has to be a race.

This morning I actually took the time to do the full curly hair routine. You know... the creams, gel, scrunching, diffusing, and resisting the urge to touch it until it's dry. It takes a little longer, but it saves me from battling frizz the rest of the day.

The funny thing is... we do this with our projects all the time.

Sometimes we intentionally slow down—not because we're behind, but because we're looking for a better way.

We reorganize the trailer, rethink our workflow, or make a small change that makes the entire project run smoother.

Taking a few extra minutes today can save hours tomorrow.

So whether it's your hair, your business, or your home project...

Slow down. Pay attention. Reflect. Improve.

And if you happen to see a dog along the way...

We're probably going to be a few minutes late. 🐾

What does victory look like?

For me, right now, it looks like having the energy and capacity to keep showing up for the things that matter.

I'm working with Andrea D'Ambrosio Bauer at Smart & Simple Nutrition to navigate some of the fun that comes with perimenopause and learn to fuel my body differently.

Not just for fitness or dance—but so I can keep dancing, teaching, parenting, building KNBKC, serving our clients, and doing all the things I love.

We're Gen X. We're used to the whole "just push through it" mentality.

But I'm learning that taking care of yourself isn't selfish.

It's maintenance.

And just like the homes we work on, sometimes you have to address the underlying issues to keep everything running at its best.

Victory isn't perfection.

It's being strong, fueled, and healthy enough to keep doing what you love.

And that's a pretty damn good victory.

$98. For a gray hoodie.

As a Gen-Xer, I have questions.

Because I distinctly remember a time when this was junior high gym class attire.

Gray sweatshirt. Gray sweatpants. Zero fashion. Maximum comfort. 😂

And if we bought it at Kmart (remember them)? We probably paid $15.99 and thought we were getting a deal.

But put that same hoodie in a high-end store, give it a fancy little tag, and suddenly it's $98.

The hoodie didn't change.

The perceived value did.

And funny how we do the exact same thing with home improvement.

We see one contractor's price and another contractor's price and automatically assume the lower number is the better deal.

But price isn't the only thing you're paying for.

You're paying for experience. Knowledge. Communication. Problem-solving. Attention to detail. Quality workmanship. Showing up. Following through. And having someone who actually cares about the finished product—not just getting paid and getting out.

You can always find someone cheaper.

Just like you can find a cheaper gray hoodie.

But cheap and valuable aren't always the same thing.

So, yes...we may be a little more than the Kmart option.

But we also aren't charging $98 for a gray hoodie.

Because some things just aren't worth that much. 😂

A few weeks ago, we were talking about Little Deck Energy…

But let’s be clear: KNBKC Repairs & Improvements, LLC shows love to the BIG decks, too.

Because sometimes you don’t need a little deck.

Sometimes you need a BIG DECK.

And this one? She’s a beauty. 💪🏼

Built for entertaining. Built for relaxing. Built for making the neighbors a little jealous. 😉

Whatever your deck energy—little, big, or somewhere in between—we’ve got you covered.

Big deck. Little deck. We don’t judge. We just build. 😂
