Focal is very honored to announce that our project, Collegiate House, is an honoree of Fast Company’s 2026 Innovation by Design Awards!
Located in Manhattan, Kansas, Collegiate House is an alternative model for university housing by recasting student living as a compact domestic collective rather than just a standard apartment or dorm complex. Nestled within a dense neighborhood near Kansas State University, the project responds to this context with a tightly organized sectional strategy and a simple and direct form that recalls the barn structures of central Kansas.
With an emphasis on connection, community, and a sense of home, Collegiate House explores how an alternative to traditional student housing can foster thoughtful, collaborative living. Thank you to everyone who helped bring Collegiate House to life!
