Rogue Visual Design - Laser Scanning

Rogue Visual Design - Laser Scanning Welcome to the official page of Rogue Visual Design. We are a Kansas City based company specializing in 3D Laser Scanning/LiDAR & Scan-to-BIM/CAD.

Rogue Visual Design is a Kansas City based design firm that specializes in 3D Laser Scanning services for the Architectural, Engineering, and Construction industries. 3D Laser Scanning (also known as reality capture, high-definition survey, or LiDAR) uses highly-accurate laser technology to digitally capture the shape, location, and dimensions of physical objects and environments in a non-contact

and non-destructive way. Rogue Visual Design is proud to be one of VERY few companies that focus solely on providing laser scanning and support services. Our single-focus allows us to develop expertise in utilizing the best of rapidly changing technologies paired with the most efficient procedures for your projects. Our team is led and staffed by engineers and designers with years of industry experience and bring a data-driven mind-set to every project. As engineers and designers ourselves, we know the information to gather; we know what questions to ask; and we know how to deliver the information so that it is quickly integrated and useful.Further, we are able to convert the laser scan to a BIM model for clients who want to extend the usefulness of the laser scans. Due to our range of experience, we are able to accurately model the architectural, structural, and mechanical systems to the client's required level of detail. Our office is located in Kansas City, conveniently situated in the heart of the United States. We are just a short drive or flight from your project location.

Honoring those who gave everything so we could build something. 🇺🇸

She does not just document spaces. She transforms them.

After navigating a certification process designed for the big players, Rogue Visual Design is officially WBE certified at the city, state, and federal levels.

That LiDAR tech in the photo? That is Megan doing what she does best.

Woman-owned. Kansas City-built. Reality capture at the highest level. 🔵

Documenting historic machines requires great care, expertise, precision, and passion. Artifacts should be touched and moved as little as possible. They are displayed with specific lighting, temperature, and humidity to protect and preserve them. LiDAR is the perfect tool.

The WWI Memorial & Museum has scanning equipment to document much of their collection; however, it is not built to scan something as large as a tank… it’s just not practical.

While the museum curators were putting some of the final touched on the new “Paris at War” exhibit, we spent a few hours scanning the Renault FT-17 light tank.

Working with the new autonomous RTC2Go from Leica Geosystems has been a game-changer. Self-navigating complex environments, adapting scan paths in real time, reducing setup time and rescans -- this thing is redefining how we approach reality capture in the field. We're honored to be among the first to put it through its paces. Excited to see where this goes next.

Meet Emily Warren Roebling.

Her husband Washington was the official chief engineer of the Brooklyn Bridge. When he got sick and couldn't work, she showed up every day — taught herself advanced math, managed the construction teams, and kept a 14-year project on track.

She rode across the finished bridge with the President of the United States at its 1883 opening.

He got the credit on the plaque. She ran the job.

Happy Women's History Month. 🌉

Quick Kansas City trivia: Who designed roughly 1,000 buildings around the Country Club Plaza in the 1920s?

Nelle Nichols Peters. A woman. In the 1920s.

We walk past her work constantly. RVD scans historic buildings for preservation — odds are good we've scanned hers.

Shortly after taking off from MCI on our way to a project, we noticed a site that looked very familiar. It was a project we had worked on several years ago during the first phase of construction (largest building). The contract specified a minimum thickness of asphalt and concrete, and our client needed to prove the subs were meeting the specifications. In the process, we proved the information gathered had additional benefits. Scans of the subgrade show the high and low spots. Those areas could be addressed before it caused problems with the paved surface. Scanning during a concrete pour allowed the team to conduct flatness checks. High or low areas could be fixed while the material was workable. Also, the volume of material laid could be checked to confirm invoicing.

A couple weeks ago, one of our specialists was scanning on the apron/ramp at a small airport when a ground crew member gave him a heads-up: a plane had landed and was about to pull into the gate he was working on. He had time to let the complete its scan before relocating alongside the terminal. Moments like this weren't a one-off. Throughout the project, he remained flexible, adapting to evolving conditions such as clearing lobbies, aircraft arrivals and departures, and even rain and sleet. This is where preparation meets performance. Our equipment, experience, and field procedures allow us to stay flexible, move efficiently, and keep projects on track regardless of how dynamic the environment is.

When planning to scan a site, documenting above ceiling tile is an option to consider. Numerous MEP and structural systems are hidden within the plenum space. Scanning above tile does add time and cost to a project.
