Bought myself two more years. I have a lot of thoughts about “licensing” and here are a few:
* good contractors have to pay into the fund that’s set up to help pay for bad contractors and that doesn’t feel fair at all
* I just paid $338 to be a contractor. I didn’t have to prove any knowledge or anything, I just had to have $338.
* Just because a contractor is licensed doesn’t mean they’re any good. It just means they had $338.

Maybe I’ll write a blog about my contractor’s licensing journey. It took a year and involved FOIA requests.

Anyway, I’m licensed for a while longer!

“Hey Blake, why do you insist on doing a site visit before putting together a proposal?”
This is why.
1️⃣ live uncapped wires
2️⃣ live capped wires, but still exposed
3️⃣ push-in connectors are OK, but connections need to be in a box just like if you used wire nuts
An electrician needs to do a sweep of this attic before we can even think about insulating.
Less-experienced or uncaring insulators would just bury all that and let the insurance company sort you out when your house burned down.

insulation pricing tracking for the blown insulation I use for attics. the big jump in '25 is because I had to switch suppliers.

New blog’s up. Many people over the years have asked me about attic fans.

The worst attic I’ve EVER been in was in Kawaihae. It had an attic fan running full-tilt all day and it helped exactly none.

I'm asked all the time about attic fans. I get their appeal.
