A good tile installation starts with the layout.
This bathroom is a good example of some of the details that can easily go unnoticed when a tile job is done right.
In the shower, we centered the entire layout on the back wall. That allowed us to keep the cuts the same size on both sides, as well as balance the layout from top to bottom. Instead of simply starting with a full tile in one corner and letting the cuts land wherever they land, the whole wall was planned before the first tile was set.
We took the same approach with the wainscoting throughout the bathroom. Its height was established around a full tile, rather than cutting a row just to hit an arbitrary height. That gives the room cleaner lines and a much more intentional finished appearance.
The heated floor, shower, mosaic shower floor, wainscoting and full-height feature wall all had to work together as one installation.
The details matter. Good tile work is as much about what happens before the first tile goes on the wall as it is about setting the tile itself.
