Hey! It’s History Friday!

This week, we have a photo of the Muryl Gould Residence, located at 444 Woodland Avenue in Kalispell. Built around 1938 by Muryl Gould, the home is a single-story, wood-frame structure designed in the “French Farmhouse” Tudor style, evident in its simulated half-timber trim. The steeply pitched gable roof and large central chimney add to its distinctive character. The house was designed by notable Kalispell architect Fred Brinkman.

Muryl Frederick Gould, originally from North Dakota, moved to Kalispell from Glasgow, Montana, in 1937 after spending nine years as a Chevrolet dealer. In Kalispell, he operated Flathead Motor Sales until his retirement and the sale of the business in 1954. He married Ethel Mann in North Dakota in 1926; she passed away in 1955. In 1967, he married Mary Miller. Muryl was an avid hunter and chose to settle in the Flathead Valley, which he considered a “sportsman’s paradise.” He passed away in 1991.
