Our first visit out to this site was pre-pandemic, to discuss several phases of work on this beautiful Italianate farmhouse, including framing in and fenestration for a screened in porch. By taking time to formulate a plan, we also built a relationship with the clients, learning about their extraordinary attention to detail. This relationship became the foundation of the whole project, providing us the opportunity to make their vision a reality.

The clients’ desire to build in classic Italianate design & proportions was challenging at times, especially resolving the gables on the porch roof for a proper soffit, but with a lot of teamwork and communication with our clients, we have finished phase 2 and started mock ups for the exterior paneling, columns, soffit and door.

Up next for phase 3 is millwork and trimming out, so for now, back to the shop, awaiting the roofers to lay the new metal roof.

One of the projects keeping us busy this winter has been these three ganged window units and sash.

The three triple-units feature 2 over 2 sash with true radius head jambs, thumb latch balance systems, and accurate interlocking weatherstripping.

They are ready to ship out to the site for install.

This project provided us the terrific opportunity to build a better window for a client who has a great eye for detail and authenticity.

Companies can measure growth in many ways, and one of those ways that North Coast Window Works takes pride in is through our workforce. Here is our newest team member Addison, who started with us a few months back. Last week, he built his first new sash. He’s been a great addition to our team, increasing our ability to service our clients’ needs.

Sometimes, it works best for our clients to remove their own sashes and bring them to us for restoration. This was the case with this lakefront cottage project in South Haven, Michigan. After restoration of these 13 sashes in the shop, North Coast Window Works reinstalled them and a new door, as well as several small sill and jamb repairs.

Don’t think you can remove your own window sash? You’d be surprised what you can do, we are happy to take time to teach you. Contact us today to learn more!

North Coast Window Works recently had the pleasure of completing this residential project in South Bend, Indiana. This project required replacement of 4 entire window units, and 10 replica sashes... All before we even got on site.

The preparation was demanding, being an hour and a half from the shop, and the front triple gang jamb was rebuilt/restored entirely on site, including replication of the intricate exterior millwork and plenty of epoxy. The crew buckled down at went at it with some very long days, and the results speak for themselves, just take a look at the before and after of the front.

A window restoration project can quickly morph into a some major envelope restoration, as we found on this residential job.

As we began to open up the soffit, we found a lot of the bump out needed to be re-framed, and ended up replicating and rehanging 4 different moldings as we rebuilt the soffit.

The windows were restored to a natural finish on the inside which took some careful work, including the original hardware.

The Park Club roof project in downtown Kalamazoo. It looked pretty rough when we began, but fortunately, we had some great collaborators to work along side on this project, such as Byce & Associates and legendary slate roof guru John Crookston. We had 17 window units in 7 dormers, restoring half and replicating the other half of the sashes.

The exterior required painstaking replication of all original architectural millwork. Sills, coved plinths, blind stops, half rounds, ship-lap siding and even hand carved details in the casing. All replicated using Accoya as spec’d To make sure our work will last another 100 years. And to top it off, all new triple-track low-e storms to protect the sashes.

Despite the limited time to work on the 3 different scaffold sets, our team navigated the challenges of the schedule and site, which was no easy task as the restaurant was open during the construction. The obstacles were many, but working in concert with all the different trades allowed us to be a big part of this Kalamazoo gem’s incredible restoration.
