With 140,000 square feet and 95 studios, this building accommodates over 100 artists and artisans creating works in all mediums including glass, printmaking, papermaking, metalsmithing, welding, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, woodworking, woodcarving, photography, painting, textiles, serigraphy, and beadworking. Among these artists, are tenants working in a variety of fields and types of businesses

Someone standing outside after Art Hop last night said Park Trades was “kinda jank.”
Yeah. A little.
This is the southeast side of the building, outside Glass Art Kalamazoo. Those giant vents always look like jet engines to me — which seems fitting considering the amount of heat they deal with in there year-round.
The building is old. The paint is peeling. Things have been patched, repatched, added onto and changed a hundred times.

But here’s the thing — if Park Trades was shiny, perfect and brand new, most of us couldn’t afford to be here.
And I need this place.
I don’t need perfect. I need interesting. I need history. I need weird old walls, working artists, people making things, and a place where I can keep doing what I do.
I’ll take a little jank.

Tonight’s Art Hop, and I’m opening the studio doors for a little open house.
Sarah’s bringing goodies, Mark’s bringing something to sip on, and I’ll be here showing off the new space I’ve been working so hard on.
Could be 3 people. Could be a whole bunch. Either way, come wander through, say hi, look around, and see where Tattoos by Raven lives now.
