Ever wonder what the difference between “Level 4” and “Level 5” is when discussing a drywall finish?
Did you know that your new construction/ remodel project will need a PVA primer to essentially seal the pores of drywall paper &/or mud, or why that is?
These questions are common and the answers are fairly simple.
This is an example of a “Level 4” finish, which means that the Sheetrock itself has been taped, and coated a minimum of twice, screws three times and is ready for sanding. (Tomorrow)
The paper on the face of the drywall absorbs paint differently than the “joint compound” itself.
Primer seals the pores and allows for the paint itself to lay better on top, thus taking less product to get your colorful finish and yet many times you can still see the “flashing” of these joints you see here now.
Level 5 is when you have a full surface coverage, either with mud itself, which will need applied and sanded to perfection or a “Level 5” product such as “Acrylitex” by Sherwin Williams with acrylic mixture along with the typical PVA solutions.
This product then needs power sanded over every inch. Acrylitex is also a PVA and serves just fine for a prime coat.
My point is that Level 5 can be affordable!
