Most people look at building a house and think about what it costs today…
I tend to think about what it’s going to cost 20–30 years from now.
I’ve just seen too many houses where things start showing up later —floors that don’t feel right, walls that move, stuff that shouldn’t be a problem… but is.
A lot of that goes back to this stage right here 👇Before the paint, before cabinets, before anything gets covered up.
This is where it either gets done right… or it doesn’t.
You can build something a little cheaper upfront, and sometimes that works out.
Or you can take your time, pay attention to the details, and usually end up with something that holds up a whole lot better over the years.
I’m not saying I’m perfect —but I do try to build things the way I’d want them if it was my own house.
Something that stays straight, stays solid, and doesn’t turn into a constant repair project.
At the end of the day, it’s not just about what it costs to build —it’s about what it costs to live in.
If you know someone thinking about building, this is the part I always tell people to pay attention to.
