Handcrafted to Become an Heirloom
There is something special about a table built the old-fashioned way—one intended to gather a family around it today and still be doing the same generations from now.
This handcrafted solid cherry dining table was designed and built here at Appalachian Woodworks with the character of an antique table that has already lived a long and well-loved life.
The rustic cherry was carefully distressed by hand, stained in a rich Jacobean finish, and completed with an antique oil finish that brings out the beautiful variations in the wood while preserving its aged, timeworn character.
But some of our favorite details are found when you look a little closer.
The tapered cherry legs are joined to the shaped aprons using traditional mortise-and-tenon construction with contrasting black walnut pegs. Marks, knots and imperfections were intentionally incorporated into the finish to give the table the character of a piece that has been used and loved for generations.
And tucked into each end of the table is a hand-fitted, dovetailed drawer, inspired by early antique dining and work tables. There are no modern metal drawer slides—the drawers run traditionally on wood, just as an old handmade drawer would. Each is finished with a hand-carved black walnut pull.
Generously sized to seat ten, this isn’t a table designed to look perfect and untouched.
It’s a table designed for Sunday dinners, holidays, grandchildren, conversations, celebrations—and all the little marks that become part of a family’s story.
Solid cherry. Traditional joinery. Black walnut details. Hand-distressed and built one piece at a time in East Tennessee.
And underneath—where a traditional furniture maker would leave his mark—the table bears the Appalachian Woodworks maker’s mark, “Made in Jonesborough, Tennessee,” Joe’s signature, “JMR,” and the year 2026.
Because an heirloom should carry the story of who made it.
Built as furniture was once built—to be used, lived with, and passed down.
