If you live in a sandy rich soil environment.
Meaning. Good topsoil. That you CANT dig out.
Then yes. Lay down your underlayment.

But around here boys. We have clay. Slate. And limestone.

That’s why. You don’t see underlayment on my projects. It’s not “necessary”.

We dig out ALL topsoil. We strip the earth to an elevation it’s never been before.
And then pack in a minimum of 6inches clean 3/4.

We then COMPLETELY fill the void behind wall with more clean 3/4. Grid. And pipe.
(Also. Block is porous. Water seeps through everything)

Also. If grade behind wall is “correct” then water will be shedding away from the wall. Not towards it.

Water diversion plans are real.
And if you don’t know already.
I’m gonna tell you.
Water is your worst enemy.
Treat it accordingly.

Straight talk: Wall Class is 2 weeks out.
4 seats are already filled. 4 left.

I’ve got to lock in lodging and order materials this week to make sure everything’s dialed in for the guys already committed — which means I need the last 4 seats filled by this Sunday.

After Sunday, whatever’s open stays open until the next class — no exceptions, because the logistics have to lock.

But. In business. There is no loss. Just information gained. And a lesson learned. At least. I hope you’re learning. And honestly. Quicker than I did.

The easiest way to get where you wanna go. Is ask for help from someone who is there.

And probably wouldn’t have gotten half of what I did, done today….I arrived just before noon.

Rocked. Adjusted. Packed. Laid over 80ft of foundation. Loaded the mini. And was gone by 4:15.

Now the Guys will close her out.

And I’m on to the next one 🫡
