Scott Westbrook has worked at PT Ferro for 28 years. He started here when a lot of our current employees were in grade school.

In this video he talks about the work, the projects, and what nearly three decades on our jobsites has meant for him and his family. Houses. Cars. Kids raised and put through school. All of it built on the back of a trade most people drive past every day without a second thought.

At PT Ferro we talk a lot about growth. New equipment, new contracts. But the real growth is in the people who start as laborers and end up running the job, and in the families standing behind them the whole way.

Scott is one of many people here who took a trade and through hard work and dedication, turned it into a life.

We don't just build roads. We build careers, and lives for the people who do the work.

Crews are continuing to install 8" PVC water main along 4th Avenue in Joliet.

As with most underground work in established corridors, existing utilities are always a challenge - and this picture captures the gauntlet. Storm sewer, sanitary service, and buried electric cables are all being crossed in one short stretch.

The trench box is in the ground, the equipment is staged, and the work is moving.

Another day in the field at PT Ferro.

Phase 1 of the Fairmont Stormwater System Rehabilitation Project is underway in Lockport Township.

We're installing large diameter storm sewer through a residential neighborhood.

This work is tight and demanding but our crew is getting it done in the summer heat!

Today we celebrate the company that Peter and Tony Ferro built from the ground up.

PT Ferro was Incorporated in the State of Illinois on July 13, 1963, some months before becoming fully operational the following year.

Since that first small step, the company has grown, expanded, and taken on bigger work across the area. But the foundation has never changed.

Show up.
Outwork everyone.
Do it all over again tomorrow.

That is how Pete and Tony built this company.

When the job is complicated, we figure it out. When someone says it cannot be done, we find a way.

That mindset built P.T. Ferro and it is still the standard today, two generations later.

On June 15, 2007, IDOT opened bids on a series of projects to widen and reconstruct I-55 between I-80 in Joliet and Weber Road in Bolingbrook.

The I-55 and I-80 interchange sits at what is literally called the Crossroads of America. That corridor carries roughly 120,000 vehicles a day, with trucks making up over 35 percent of the traffic mix. The intermodal facilities in nearby Joliet and Elwood handle over 3.5 million international containers every year, making Will County the largest inland port in the nation.

You are not building on a quiet stretch of highway. Every stage change, every lane closure, every material delivery happens in real time against that backdrop, and there is no margin for error.

The Tri-Venture of P.T. Ferro Construction, Gallagher Asphalt Corp, and D Construction was the low bidder on Contract 62895 - a $25.7 million undertaking to widen and resurface I-55 in both northbound and southbound directions from south of I-80 in Joliet to Black Road in Shorewood. It was one of four contracts awarded to the Tri-Venture along this corridor, representing more than $100 million in improvements.

PT Ferro was the lead contractor on this project. Over multiple construction seasons, we were tasked with moving 52,000 cubic yards of earth, installing nearly 20,000 lineal feet of storm sewer, and placing more than 105,000 tons of asphalt on one of the busiest freight corridors in the country.

Eighteen years later, those lanes are still carrying the load they were built for.

So is the company that built them.

With help from our friends and Steve Spiess Construction, construction has started for the new distribution main and transmission main for the City of Joliet.

We consider it a privilege to be installing new water main specifically for transmission from the City of Chicago to Joliet.

And it's an honor having Steve Spiess Construction as part of the team as they start on the West end of the project while we work on getting started on the East end.

This won't be a fast, nor easy project, but in the end, it will be a large benefit to the City of Joliet and it's residents.

Ten years ago on July 5, 2016, Austin Blaesing started his career at PT Ferro.

Since then, he's never stopped pushing to be better. Austin worked his way into a foreman's role, and he earned it the only way that role should be earned. He showed up, took pride in the details, and held himself to the standard before anyone asked him to.

This photo tells you the rest of his story. He's also a proud Poppa, showing his young boys an excavator on a day off.

Congrats on 10 years, Austin!
