Just another reason to hire a Licensed Professional !
Just because it’s pipe doesn’t mean it’s the right pipe.
That’s a gas line to a water heater ran with pipe solely designed for water.
I recently had to address the opposite issue where a handyman ran gas pipe for a water line.

Don’t hire handymen when it comes to Plumbing, Gas, or Electrical.
