Today we’re taking a well deserved day off to relax, recharge, and appreciate the people who keep things moving, including the crews who spend their days making properties look their best.

We hope you enjoy the long weekend with family, friends, and maybe a little less mowing.

Please join us in celebrating Lewis Samuels, our September Employee of the Month at A Great Choice Lawn Care and Landscaping!

Lewis has been with us for over a year and serves as a foreman during the landscaping season, while also helping keep things moving when winter rolls around with our snow operations.

When he’s not working, you’ll likely find Lewis fishing, boating, or hanging out with his three dogs: two Black Lab German Shepherd mixed and a German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix.

We appreciate all the hard work, dedication, and leadership Lewis brings to the team. You truly are A Great Choice!

It’s National Dog Day, so naturally Mattie Mae and Lue have decided the office is CLOSED… for them, anyway.

No phones. No emails. No meetings. No responsibilities.

Just naps, snacks, belly rubs, and aggressively avoiding anything that resembles actual work.

Fun Facts About Mowing

• Grass grows faster when it’s warm and getting plenty of water, which is why it seems to grow overnight when you’re trying to keep up.

• Cutting off too much at once can stress your grass. The general rule: never remove more than about ⅓ of the blade at a time. Your lawn has feelings. Apparently.

• Sharp mower blades make a cleaner cut, which means healthier looking grass. Dull blades basically chew your lawn instead of cutting it.

• Changing your mowing direction helps prevent soil compaction and those dreaded ruts.

• Grass clippings aren’t necessarily the enemy. When properly mulched, they return nutrients right back to the lawn.

And perhaps the most important fact of all: a freshly mowed lawn just looks better.

At A Great Choice, we take mowing seriously because apparently, not everyone considers “just mow it” a landscaping strategy.

We recently had the opportunity to install synthetic turf at Mom’s House, a wonderful local nonprofit that empowers single parents to complete their education by providing free, NYS-licensed child care.

The new turf gives the kids a cleaner, more durable place to play while helping keep the play area, and those little shoes, cleaner. Because when it comes to kids, a little less mud tracked inside is always a win!

We’re proud to be able to support an organization doing such important work in our community. Thank you to Mom’s House for allowing A Great Choice Lawn Care and Landscaping to be part of this project!

A little patio can make a BIG difference.

We just wrapped up this patio project in Johnson City, NY, and it’s a great reminder that you don’t need a massive space to transform your outdoor living area. The right layout, materials, and a little planning can turn even a smaller patio into a comfortable place to relax, entertain, and enjoy the outdoors.
